Traffic Pattern Changes Planned for I-66/Route 29 Interchange in Centreville Starting on or About October 28

FAIRFAX – The right lane on southbound Stringfellow Road between Fair Lakes Boulevard and Village Square Drive is scheduled to close for about one month starting Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 5 a.m.

Multiple Overnight Ramp Closures at I-66 / Route 29 Interchange in Centreville This Week

FAIRFAX – Temporary closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours this week at the I-66 / Route 29 Interchange in Centreville.  Closures are needed for paving operations for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Overnight Closures and Traffic Stoppages on Route 28 the Week of Oct. 13

FAIRFAX – Bridge beam installation for new bridges continues at the Route 28 and I-66 Interchange, requiring full closure of Route 28 North at I-66 during overnight hours of Sunday, Oct. 13, with additional ramp and lane closures on Route 28 throughout the week.  Drivers will be directed to follow signed detours and should expect delays if traveling in this area. Closures are needed to safely install bridge beams over the roadway and ramps.

Vaden Drive Bridge Over I-66 Near Vienna Metrorail Station to Close for About 10 Months Beginning On or About Oct. 18

FAIRFAX – The Vaden Drive bridge over I-66 near the Vienna Metrorail Station is scheduled to close for approximately 10 months beginning on or about Friday, Oct. 18 to accommodate construction of a new bridge as part of the I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes project. The previously announced bridge closure is expected to cut in half – from 24 months to 12 months - the time needed to demolish the existing bridge and construct a new one. This shortened schedule will help reduce construction impacts on adjacent communities and roadway users.

New Park and Ride Lot Opens Monday, Oct. 7, on University Boulevard in Gainesville

FAIRFAX – On Monday, Oct. 7, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will open a new park and ride lot at University Boulevard near I-66 in Gainesville in time for the morning commute. Opening with more than 1,000 spaces, the new lot will provide commuters new opportunities to travel by carpool, vanpool, or bus service while I-66 construction is underway. Other areas of the lot will remain under construction and are expected to open with about 1,000 additional parking spaces, as well as additional access from Route 29 (Lee Highway) and convenient access to and from the I-66 Express Lanes by December 2022. On Monday, drivers should access the lot from University Boulevard.

FAIRFAX – Bridge beam installation for a new bridge and ramps continues at the Route 28 and I-66 Interchange, requiring closure of Route 28 North at I-66 during the overnight hours Sunday, Oct. 6, through Thursday, Oct. 10.

Long-Term Single Lane Closure on Northbound University Boulevard over I-66 Starting Monday, October 7

GAINESVILLE  – The right lane of northbound University Boulevard over I-66 in Gainesville is scheduled to close on Monday, Oct. 7, at 9 p.m. The lane closure will be in place for approximately six months for crews to widen the bridge deck to accommodate future access ramps for the Express Lanes on the east side of the University Boulevard bridge. The shared-use path along the east side of University Boulevard will be shifted and remain open.
