FAIRFAX – Demolition activities continue this week at the I-66/Route 50 Interchange with removal of the old Route 50 West bridge deck over the ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East. The ramp will be closed during the overnight hours Wednesday, September 1, and Thursday, September 2, so that crews can perform the work. The Route 50 Interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

UPDATE (9/2/2021): This work has been postponed to the overnight hours of Thursday, September 9, with the new traffic pattern beginning on Friday morning, September 10. (Friday and Saturday nights, September 10 and 11, will be used as backup, if needed.)

UPDATE (9/1/2021): Due to inclement weather, this work has been postponed to Thursday night, September 2, with the new traffic pattern beginning on Friday morning, September 3.

FAIRFAX – The Braddock Road/Walney Road Bridge over Route 28 will open to eastbound through traffic (from Braddock Road to Walney Road) beginning Thursday morning, September 2. To implement this traffic change, Braddock Road and Walney Road between Newton Patent Drive and Cabells Mill Drive will be closed during the overnight hours Wednesday, September 1, to reconfigure lane striping.   

FAIRFAX – The ramp from southbound I-495 to I-66 West will be closed during the overnight hours next week, Monday, August 30; Tuesday, August 31; and Thursday, September 2, for continued overhead bridge beam installation. Traffic will be detoured using the Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East Exit. The I-66/I-495 Interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages on I-495 South approaching I-66 are scheduled to occur Wednesday, September 1, for crews to implement a traffic shift. The ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South will also be closed. The ramp from I-66 West to the 495 Express Lanes South will remain open. Work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – The travel lanes on I-66 East between Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) and Route 50 will be shifted to new pavement along the right side (outer portion) of I-66 on or about Friday night, August 27. To implement this traffic shift, I-66 East approaching Route 286 will be reduced to a single travel lane during the overnight hours of August 27, and all eastbound I-66 traffic will travel in a single lane on the eastbound collector-distributor lane through the I-66 East/Route 286 Interchange.

FAIRFAX – The loop ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 South in Centreville will reopen on or about Friday morning, August 27. The ramp has been closed while it was reconfigured to connect with the realigned I-66 and Route 28 as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at several I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – The ramp from southbound I-495 to I-66 West will be closed during the overnight hours Monday, August 23, through Friday, August 27, for continued overhead bridge beam installation. Traffic will be detoured using the Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East exit. The I-66/I-495 Interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Traffic stoppages are planned for I-66 East and West approaching Monument Drive on Tuesday, August 24, between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., so that Dominion Energy can work on overhead lines. Traffic on I-66 will be stopped in both directions simultaneously three times for up to 20 minutes each to accommodate the work, which is needed for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages on I-66 West approaching Route 28 in Centreville are planned August 17-21 for overhead bridge work on a new Route 28 South bridge over I-66.

FAIRFAX – Demolition of the remainder of the old Route 50 bridges over I-66 continues this week with overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages on I-66, Monday, August 16, through Thursday, August 19. FAIRFAX – The ramp from I-495 South to I-66 West will be closed during the overnight hours next week, Monday, August 16, through Friday, August 20, for overhead bridge beam installation.  Traffic will be detoured using the Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) Interchange. The I-66/I-495 Interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) over I-66 will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction during the overnight hours Monday, August 16, through Wednesday, August 18, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. The southbound side of Route 123 approaching I-66 will be closed with two-way traffic running in the northbound travel lanes. The closure is necessary for concrete work on the deck of the new Route 123 South bridge over I-66 as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. 

FAIRFAX – Planned closures of I-66 West for installation of bridge beams for a new Route 28 South bridge over I-66 will continue during the overnight hours tonight, Thursday, August 12, and next Monday, August 16. I-66 West will close at Route 28 with drivers directed to Route 28 North, Westfields Boulevard, then Route 28 South to return to I-66 West. The Route 28 Interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Drivers are reminded that I-66 West in the Vienna area will be reduced from four to three travel lanes during daytime and evening hours this Saturday, August 14, and will be reduced to a single lane Friday and Saturday nights, August 13 and 14. These closures will allow paving work to occur, followed by the shifting of lanes on I-66 West between Gallows Road and Nutley Street to new pavement on the right side (outer portion) of I-66.

FAIRFAX – Traffic stoppages are planned for I-66 East and West approaching Monument Drive tonight, Wednesday, August 11, between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., so that Verizon can install overhead lines.

FAIRFAX – Nightly lane closures, ramp closures, and traffic stoppages will be needed next week on I-66 West and I-495 North, Tuesday, August 10, through Thursday, August 12, for bridge beam installation at the I-66/I-495 Interchange as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

UPDATE (8/11/2021): Beam installation tonight, Wednesday, August 11, will not require roadway closures. I-66 West closures are planned for beam lifts on Thursday night, August 12.

UPDATE (8/9/2021): Beam lifts for Monday night, August 9, have been postponed. Beam installation and I-66 West closures are now planned for Wednesday and Thursday nights, August 11-12.

FAIRFAX – Planned closures of I-66 East and West for installation of bridge beams for a new Route 28 South bridge over I-66 have been adjusted for tonight and next week. I-66 East will close at Route 29 (Lee Highway) during the overnight hours tonight, Friday, August 6. I-66 West will close at Route 28 the nights of Monday, August 9, and Wednesday, August 11. Multiple I-66 ramps to/from Route 28 and Route 29 will also be closed during these nights. The Route 28 Interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. 

FAIRFAX – Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) over I-66 will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction during the overnight hours Wednesday and Thursday, August 11 and 12, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. The southbound lanes of Route 123 over I-66 will be closed with two-way traffic running in the northbound travel lanes. The closure is necessary for concrete work on the bridge deck of the new Route 123 South bridge over I-66 as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. 

FAIRFAX – The travel lanes on westbound I-66 between Gallows Road and Nutley Street will be shifted to new pavement on the right side (outer portion) of I-66 on or about the weekend of August 13, as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. This traffic shift will allow work to progress building the future I-66 Express Lanes in the center of the roadway. To implement the traffic shift, I-66 West in the Vienna area will be reduced to a single travel lane during the overnight hours Friday and Saturday, August 13 and 14. In addition, one lane on westbound I-66 in the same area will remain closed during the daytime hours Saturday, August 14. 

FAIRFAX – Demolition of the old Route 50 East bridge over I-66 continues with beam removal and demolition of bridge piers planned this weekend and throughout next week as the Route 50 Interchange is rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. The work will require multiple nights of closures and traffic stoppages on I-66, along with associated ramp closures and detours.

FAIRFAX – University Boulevard over I-66 will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction beginning at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, August 5, continuously through 8 a.m. Saturday, August 7. The northbound side of University Boulevard will be closed with two-way traffic running on the southbound side. The closure is necessary for concrete work on the bridge deck as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. 

FAIRFAX – I-66 East and West will close nightly August 4-6 and 9 to allow for installation of bridge beams for a new Route 28 South bridge over I-66.
