FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at several I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages on I-66 West approaching Jermantown Road in Oakton will continue tonight, Friday, October 29, and next week, Monday, November 1, through Saturday, November 6, for continued installation of bridge beams and overhead bridge work for the widening of Jermantown Road over I-66. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – A new loop ramp from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) North to I-66 West is planned to open on or about Tuesday night, November 2. The temporary left-turn and connector ramp from Route 123 North to I-66 West will close and the ramp from Route 123 South to I-66 West will be modified as part of the work. The Route 123 interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Lane closures, traffic stoppages, and ramp closures on I-495 North, I-66 East, and I-66 West continue during overnight hours Friday, October 29, and Saturday, October 30, as bridge beam installation continues at the I-66/I-495 Interchange as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Pre-demolition activities on the old Gallows Road Bridge over I-66 will begin during the overnight hours on or about Monday, October 25, with multi-lane closures in both directions on I-66. The Gallows Road Bridge is being replaced as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – All lanes of I-66 West approaching Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) will close Monday night, October 25, for continued bridge beam installation at the I-66/I-495 Interchange. Traffic will be detoured using Route 7 and I-495. Multiple lanes of I-495 North approaching I-66 will be closed, along with a full closure of the 495 Express Lanes North and associated ramps at the interchange so that this work may be implemented.  

FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages on I-66 East and West approaching Jermantown Road in Oakton will continue Saturday, October 23, and Monday, October 25, through Friday, October 29, for installation of bridge beams for the widening of Jermantown Road over I-66. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – The ramp from Stringfellow Road to I-66 East will be closed beginning around 10 p.m. Friday, October 22, through 4 a.m. Monday, October 25, so that crews can perform drainage work in the median of I-66. Drivers should use Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) or Route 28 to access I-66 East.

FAIRFAX – Southbound Gallows Road travel lanes will shift to a new Gallows Road bridge over I-66 during the daytime hours on or about Thursday, October 21. Pedestrian access will also shift to the east side of the new bridge, with detours using the crosswalks at Cottage Street and Avenir Place/Bellforest Drive. 

FAIRFAX – Full closures of I-66 in the Centreville area will continue nightly through October 22 as crews remove beams as part of demolition of the old Route 28 South bridge over I-66. The Route 28 Interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Lane closures and traffic stoppages are planned during overnight hours next week (October 18 through October 22) on I-66 East and West approaching Jermantown Road in Oakton, as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project. Crews will be installing bridge beams for the new, wider Jermantown Road bridge over I-66.

FAIRFAX – All lanes of I-66 West approaching Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) will close nightly, Monday through Thursday, October 18-21, for continued bridge beam installation at the I-66/I-495 Interchange. Traffic will be detoured using Route 7 and I-495. Additionally, multiple lanes will be closed on the northbound I-495 general purpose lanes near I-66, as well as a full closure of the 495 Express Lanes, and associated ramps at the I-66 and I-495 interchange so that this work may be implemented. Crews are installing beams for a new flyover ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West, as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – I-66 East in the Vienna area will be reduced from four to three travel lanes during daytime and evening hours on Saturday, October 16, and will be reduced to a single lane on Friday and Saturday nights, October 15 and 16.

FAIRFAX – Northbound Gallows Road travel lanes will shift to a new Gallows Road Bridge over I-66 during the daytime hours on or about Thursday, October 14. The southbound travel lanes are planned to shift to the new span during the week of October 18. The Gallows Road Bridge is being replaced as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Following the upcoming shift of traffic to the new Route 28 South Bridge over I-66 (planned for on or about October 14), I-66 East and West will close for multiple nights to allow for demolition of the old Route 28 South Bridge over I-66. I-66 West will close at Route 28 Friday night, October 15, followed by closure of I-66 East at Route 29 (Lee Highway) Saturday night, October 16. I-66 West closures will resume Sunday night, October 17, and continue through Friday night, October 22. Multiple I-66 ramps to/from Route 28 and Route 29 will also be closed during these nights. The Route 28 Interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Route 28 South will be shifted to a new bridge over I-66 during the overnight hours on or about Wednesday, October 13. The new alignment for Route 28 South is slightly west of the existing southbound crossing over I-66. The I-66/Route 28 Interchange is being rebuilt at part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

UPDATE (10/13/2021): The hours for the full closures of I-66 West at I-495 and the ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West have been extended for tonight, Wednesday, October 13, until 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

FAIRFAX – All lanes of I-66 West approaching Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) will close nightly October 12-14 for continued bridge beam installation at the I-66/I-495 Interchange. Traffic will be detoured using Route 7 and I-495. The ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West, as well as the 495 Express Lanes North, and multiple lanes of I-495 North approaching I-66 will also be closed so that this work may be implemented.  

FAIRFAX – A full closure of I-495 South (Capital Beltway Outer Loop) at I-66 is planned during the overnight hours Friday, October 8, through Sunday, October 10, for continued bridge beam installation at the I-66/I-495 Interchange. Traffic will be detoured around the closure via I-66 West and Nutley Street. The 495 Express Lanes South will also be closed, as will the ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South and several 495 Express Lanes ramps.
