FAIRFAX – A full closure of I-495 South (Capital Beltway Outer Loop) at I-66 is planned during the overnight hours Friday, December 3, and Saturday, December 4, for continued bridge beam installation at the I-66/I-495 Interchange. Traffic will be detoured around the closure via I-66 West and Nutley Street. The 495 Express Lanes South will also be closed, as will the ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South and several 495 Express Lanes ramps. 

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Drivers heading from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) South to I-66 West will use a new left-turn lane and traffic signal to reach a temporary access ramp to the interstate beginning during the daytime hours on or about Tuesday, November 30. This detour is anticipated to be in place through March 2022, while crews construct the new, permanent ramp from southbound Route 123 to I-66 West as part of reconstruction of the Route 123 Interchange for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Overnight demolition of the old Gallows Road Bridge over I-66 will begin Monday, November 29, through Thursday, December 2, with multi-lane closures on I-66 West nightly so that crews can break up the old concrete bridge deck over I-66 West. The Gallows Road Bridge is being replaced as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Lane closures, traffic stoppages, and ramp closures on I-66 East, I-495 North, and associated ramps at the I-66/I-495 Interchange are planned during the overnight hours next week, Monday, November 29, through Friday, December 3, as crews continue installing bridge beams and performing overhead bridge work for new ramps at the I-66/I-495 Interchange as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

UPDATE (11/22/2021): A backup night for the closure of the ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East will be utilized. The ramp will be closed Tuesday, November 23, from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for a traffic shift.

FAIRFAX – A full closure of I-66 East at I-495 is planned during the overnight hours Monday, November 22, and Tuesday, November 23, as crews continue installing bridge beams for a new flyover ramp at the I-66/I-495 Interchange as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Lane closures, traffic stoppages, and ramp closures will also be implemented at the interchange those nights.

FAIRFAX – Demolition of the old I-66 East bridge over Stringfellow Road resumes this weekend, with bridge deck demolition planned during daytime and evening hours Saturday and Sunday, November 20-21. Crews will then remove the old steel bridge beams during the overnight hours November 22-23. The work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Demolition of the portion of the old Gallows Road Bridge over the Dunn Loring Metrorail Station will continue during the daytime hours tomorrow, Saturday, November 13, and next week, November 15-20. Demolition of this portion of the bridge can be done safely without any impacts to traffic on I-66. The Gallows Road Bridge is being replaced as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Lane closures, traffic stoppages, and ramp closures on I-66 East at I-495 are planned during the overnight hours again next week, Monday, November 15, through Thursday, November 18, as crews continue installing beams for a new flyover ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Demolition of the old I-66 East and I-66 West bridges over Stringfellow Road will resume Saturday morning, November 13, with bridge deck demolition planned during daytime and evening hours Saturday and Sunday, November 14. During the overnight hours November 15 and 16, crews will remove the old steel bridge beams. The work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Lane closures, traffic stoppages, and ramp closures on I-66 East continue during the overnight hours this week, Monday, November 8, through Thursday, November 11, as bridge beam installation continues at the I-66/I-495 Interchange as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – The ramp from I-66 West to Nutley Street North and South will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, November 12, continuously through 11 a.m. Monday, November 15, for paving operations. Traffic will be directed farther west to the exit to Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Station, stay to the right onto Country Creek Road, continue onto Virginia Center Boulevard, then at the traffic signal turn left to Nutley Street North or turn right to Nutley Street South.
