Ramp from Route 29 North in Centreville to I-66 East
Through May 2020
The left-turn lane and ramp from northbound Route 29 to I-66 East will be closed for approximately four months. Drivers on Route 29 North will be directed to stay to the left and continue to the intersection at Trinity Parkway/Machen Road. At the traffic signal, drivers will use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right, and follow signs to I-66 East. As an alternate route, drivers can continue farther north to Route 28 North, stay to the right, and follow signs to I-66 East.

I-66 at Route 29 in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The first 1,000 spaces are open at the University Boulevard Park and Ride lot. An additional 1,000 spaces are being built. University Boulevard is being modified for future Express Lanes access to and from the east.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.

I-66 at Sudley Road/Route 234

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Clearing and blasting continue to make room for future construction activities. A new bridge is being built for the ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
I-66 West near Bull Run
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10: 11 a.m. to noon
Temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic for blasting operations.

Ramp from Route 234 Business North and South to I-66 East
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for crews to set barrier and perform drainage work. Northbound Route 234 Business traffic will be directed farther north to Route 29 North, turn right and continue past the Route 29 Centreville interchange. At the intersection with Trinity Parkway/Machen Road, stay to the left and use the left-most left-turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. Southbound Route 234 Business traffic will be detoured to turn right on Balls Ford Road, turn left on Miramar Drive, turn left of Coverstone Drive, and then turn left onto northbound Route 234 Business and follow the northbound detour.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The new bridge for Route 28 North over I-66 is being constructed along with multiple ramps and flyovers at the interchange. Abutments are being built for the new bridge connecting Braddock and Walney Roads. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

Route 28 Ramp to I-66 East
Through Monday, April 6 at 5 a.m.to 3 p.m.
The ramp from Route 28 North and South to I-66 East will be narrowed from two lanes to one lane for retaining wall work

Route 28 North U-Turn at old E.C. Lawrence Park Entrance
Through Friday, April 17
The left-hand U-turn lane will be closed for demolition of barrier and placement of new pavement. Drivers should continue to Westfields Blvd. and use the loop ramps to make a U-turn to Route 28 South.

I-66 East and West between Route 29 Centreville and Stringfellow Road
Route 28 North and South between Route 29 and Braddock Road
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10: 11 a.m. to noon
Temporary 15-minute traffic stoppages on I-66 East and West, and Route 28 North and South for blasting operations.

Route 29 Centreville North and South at I-66
Turn lanes from Route 29 Centreville South to I-66 West
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday, April 11: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Single lane closures on northbound and southbound Route 29 at I-66 for bridge pier construction. The turn lanes from Route 29 South to I-66 West will also be narrowed to a single lane.

Route 28 South from Westfields Boulevard to Braddock Road
Thursday, April 9, and Friday, April 10: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for paving.

I-66 at Fairfax County Parkway/Route 286

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Utility work and clearing continue for upcoming construction activities. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Stringfellow Road North and South from Westbrook Drive/Village Square Drive to Fair Lakes Boulevard
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10: 3 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The right lane will be closed utility relocation.

Route 286 North and South from Lee Highway (Route 29) to Fair Lakes Parkway
Monday, April 6, through Thursday, April 9: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, April 10: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for overhead demolition of I-66 bridges over Route 286. Drivers should expect occasional 20-minute stoppages.

Ramp from I-66 East and West to/from Monument Drive
Tuesday, April 7: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Ramp will be closed for pavement work.

I-66 at Route 50

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Express lanes access will be added at Route 50 to and from the east. Preparation is happening for rebuilding the Waples Mill Road bridge over I-66. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built.

Route 50 East at I-66
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10: 9 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Single lane closed for bridge abutment construction.

I-66 East from Monument Drive to Waples Mill Road
Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead gantry removal. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

I-66 East from Monument Drive to Waples Mill Road
Monday, April 6, and Tuesday, April 7: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two left lanes will be closed for crane mobilization.

I-66 West from Blake Lane to Jermantown Road
I-66 East from Waples Mill Road to Jermantown Road
Friday, April 10: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three left lanes of I-66 West and two left lanes of I-66 East will be closed for bridge work at Jermantown Road. Drivers on westbound I-66 should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

I-66 West from Jermantown Road to Route 50
Continuing through Monday, April 20
The HOV lane will be closed for bridge pier work in the median.

I-66 East from Route 50 to Jermantown Road
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10: 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The HOV lane will be closed for bridge pier work in the median.

I-66 at Chain Bridge Road/Route 123

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Multiple traffic pattern changes will occur as exit ramps are moved and added to accommodate new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the future shared use path. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built along I-66.

I-66 West from Blake Lane to Jermantown Road
I-66 East from Waples Mill Road to Jermantown Road
Friday, April 10: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three left lanes of I-66 West and two left lanes of I-66 East will be closed for bridge work at Jermantown Road. Drivers on westbound I-66 should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

Continuing through Monday, April 20
The HOV lane will be closed for bridge pier work in the median.

I-66 East from Route 50 to Jermantown Road
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10: 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The HOV lane will be closed for bridge pier work in the median.

I-66 at Nutley Street

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Vaden Drive bridge over I-66 is being demolished and rebuilt. The new bridge is expected to open in Sept. 2020. Work will begin on the new Nutley Street Interchange in 2020.

Cedar Lane from Hilltop Drive to Cottage Street
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Flagging operation alternating two-way traffic in a single lane for underground water line relocation.

I-66 East and West between Cedar Lane and Blake Lane
Monday, April 6, through Saturday, April 11: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two right lane will be closed for barrier wall demolition. The eastbound and westbound collector-distributor lanes at Nutley Street will also be narrowed.

I-66 East and West between I-495 and Blake Lane
Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead utility relocation at Cedar Lane. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Bridge piers are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new pier and abutments are being built for the new Gallows Road bridge.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
I-495 North from Route 29 to I-66
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Bridge work will close a single lane each day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and two lanes during overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-495 South from Route 7 to I-66
Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three left lanes will be closed for bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 South Express Lanes
Tuesday, April 7, through Thursday, April 9: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp from eastbound I-66 to the 495 Express Lanes South will be closed for utility work. Traffic will be directed to use the I-495 South general purpose lanes.
