Lane Closures

Ramp from Route 29 North in Centreville to I-66 East
Ongoing through May 2020
The left-turn lane and ramp from northbound Route 29 to I-66 East will be closed for approximately four months. Drivers on Route 29 North will be directed to stay to the left and continue to the intersection at Trinity Parkway/Machen Road. At the traffic signal, drivers will use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right, and follow signs to I-66 East. As an alternate route, drivers can continue farther north to Route 28 North, stay to the right, and follow signs to I-66 East.

Stringfellow Road between Fair Lakes Boulevard and Village Square Drive
Ongoing through January
The right lane of southbound Stringfellow Road will be closed for underground utility relocation. The lane will be reopened weekdays between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. to accommodate the evening rush.

EC Lawrence Park
A new access road and entrance to E.C. Lawrence Park from Stonecroft Boulevard on the north side of the park, near Westfields Boulevard, is now open. Drivers should use an address of 5000 Stonecroft Boulevard, Chantilly, for navigation and trip routing. The existing park entrance from Route 28 is no longer accessible.

I-66 at Route 29 in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The first 1,000 spaces are open at the University Boulevard Park and Ride lot. An additional 1,000 spaces are being built. University Boulevard is being modified for future Express Lanes access to and from the east.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Ramp from I-66 East to Prince William Parkway (Route 234 Bypass) South
Friday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, Feb. 29: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for drainage work. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) South, stay to the right and make a right at the first traffic signal on to Balls Ford Road, then continue to Prince William Parkway.

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Clearing and blasting continue to make room for future construction activities. A new bridge is being built for the ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The new bridge for Route 28 North over I-66 is being constructed along with multiple ramps and flyovers at the interchange. Abutments are being built for the new bridge connecting Braddock and Walney Roads. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

Monday, Feb. 24, through Friday, Feb. 28: 11 a.m. to noon
Temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic on I-66 East and West, Route 28 North and South, and Braddock Road near Route 28 for blasting operations.

Route 28 South from Route 50 to I-66
Tuesday, Feb. 25: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two left lanes will be closed for crews to set barrier and perform overhead bridge work.

Route 28 North from I-66 to Westfields Boulevard
Wednesday, Feb. 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two left lanes will be closed for crews to set barrier.

Route 28 South from Route 50 to Braddock Road
Thursday, Feb. 27: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two left lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

I-66 at Fairfax County Parkway/Route 286

Utility work and clearing continue for upcoming construction activities. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built.

Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) North from Route 29 (Lee Highway) to I-66
Wednesday, Feb. 26, and Thursday, Feb. 27: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, Feb. 28: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for bridge demolition of I-66 bridges over Route 286. Drivers should expect occasional 20-minute stoppages.

I-66 at Route 50

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Express lanes access will be added at Route 50 to and from the east. Preparation is happening for rebuilding the Waples Mill Road bridge over I-66. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.

I-66 at Chain Bridge Road/Route 123

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Multiple traffic pattern changes will occur as exit ramps are moved and added to accommodate new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the future shared use path. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built along I-66.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
I-66 East from Route 50 to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)
Sunday, Feb. 23, through Wednesday, Feb. 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two right lanes will be closed for bridge demolition of the former I-66 West to Route 123 South ramp over the eastbound I-66 collector-distributor lane. The eastbound I-66 collector-distributor lane under that ramp will be permanently closed following implementation of the traffic pattern change for the ramp from I-66 East to Route 123 North during overnight hours of Friday, Feb. 21.

I-66 West from Blake Lane to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)
Thursday, Feb. 27: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, Feb. 28: 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
Two right lanes will be closed for bridge pier demolition.

I-66 at Nutley Street

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Vaden Drive bridge over I-66 is being demolished and rebuilt. The new bridge is expected to open in Sept. 2020. Work will begin on the new Nutley Street Interchange in 2020.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Bridge piers are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new pier and abutments are being built for the new Gallows Road bridge.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
I-495 North from Route 50 to I-66
Tuesday, Feb. 25, through Thursday, Feb. 27: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, Feb. 28: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Two left lanes will be closed for bridge work.

I-495 South from Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) to I-66
Thursday, Feb. 27: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two left lanes will be closed for bridge work.
