I-66 at Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow space for the new express lanes in the center. A new ramp has been built between University Boulevard and I-66 that connects the new park-and-ride lot with the express lanes. The first 1,000 spaces of the lot opened in 2019. Additional spaces will be opened in 2023 to bring the total to 2,000.

Monday, April 3, through Thursday, April 6: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
One lane will be closed daily for road widening.

I-66 West at Route 29

66 Express Lanes East at Route 29
Wednesday, April 5: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The entrance to the express lanes will be closed for maintenance work on tolling systems. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

I-66 at Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow space for the new express lanes in the center. The new Balls Ford Park and Ride Lot opened in Sept. 2022, and will have a total of 1,300 spaces available by summer 2023. The lot connects directly to the express lanes. A new bridge and ramp connection have been built for travel from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

Monday, April 3, through Thursday, April 6: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for paving.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges and ramp connections have been constructed between Route 28 and the I-66 general-purpose and express lanes. A new bridge connects Braddock and Walney Roads and provides expanded access to Route 28 and I-66. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 (Lee Highway) have been rebuilt to accommodate the express lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

Monday night, April 3, through Thursday night, April 6: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed each night for noise wall work. Traffic will be detoured prior to the closure to Route 28 South, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South.

I-66 East from Route 29 to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)
Monday, April 3, through Thursday, April 6: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed each night for overhead bridge work.

I-66 West at Route 29
Wednesday, April 5: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for utility installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

Monday, April 3, through Thursday, April 6: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work.

Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East
Wednesday, April 5, and Thursday, April 6: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther south to Route 29 North (Lee Highway), stay right to Route 28 North, then follow signs for I-66 East.

The ramps will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. Drivers headed to Braddock Road/Walney Road will then stay left and follow signs to that exit.

The ramp will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North.

Tuesday, April 4, and Wednesday, April 5: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south, exit to Route 29 South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.

MAIN ACTIVITIES
I-66 bridges over Route 286 and Stringfellow Road have been expanded to make room for the express lanes and the shifted general-purpose lanes. The Monument Drive Bridge over I-66 has been modified to add express lanes ramps to and from the west. Retaining walls and noise walls have been completed across much of this part of the corridor.

Tuesday night, April 4, through Thursday night, April 6: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed each night for barrier removal and guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to I-66 East, exit to Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

Thursday night, April 6: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramps and eastbound collector-distributor lane will be closed for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North or South.

I-66 at Route 50

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New Route 50 bridges over I-66 have been built as express lanes access has been added to and from the east. The Waples Mill Road Bridge was rebuilt with improved bike and pedestrian access to include shared-use path access through the interchange. Retaining walls and noise walls were also constructed as part of the project.

Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 West
Tuesday night, April 4, through Thursday night, April 6: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed nightly for concrete work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

Monday night, April 3: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.

I-66 East from Monument Drive to Route 50
Monday, April 3, and Tuesday, April 4: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work and utility installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours on Tuesday night.

I-66 West at Route 50
Monday, April 3, and Tuesday, April 4: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed both nights for railing work.

Monument Drive South from Fair Lakes Parkway to Government Center Parkway
Monday, April 3, through Thursday, April 6: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The right lane will be closed nightly for railing work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

I-66 at Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges have been built and exit ramps moved and/or added to accommodate the new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the shared-use path. Retaining walls and noise walls were also constructed as part of the project.

66 Express Lanes East from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) to I-495 (the end of the express lanes)
Saturday, April 1: 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to exit the express lanes at Route 123, turn right at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, then stay to the right to access the I-66 East general-purpose lanes.

I-66 East from Jermantown Road to Route 123
Tuesday, April 4: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for finishing work.

I-66 West from Blake Lane to Route 123
Monday, April 3; Tuesday, April 4; and Friday, April 7: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed each night for overhead bridge work and utility installation. On Monday and Friday nights, drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

I-66 at Nutley Street

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Nutley Street Interchange has been temporarily reconfigured to allow for the construction of a "double roundabout" where Nutley Street crosses I-66. The Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane bridges over I-66 have been demolished and rebuilt. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
66 Express Lanes East from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) to I-495 (the end of the express lanes)
Saturday, April 1: 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to exit the express lanes at Route 123, turn right at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, then stay to the right to access the I-66 East general-purpose lanes.

66 Express Lanes West from I-495 to Vaden Drive
Saturday, April 1: 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

I-66 West from Cedar Lane to Nutley Street
Tuesday, April 4, through Thursday, April 6: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for punch list work, overhead bridge work, and utility installation. On Tuesday and Thursday nights, drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

New bridges and ramps connect the 66 Express Lanes with the I-495 general-purpose and 495 Express Lanes. A new Gallows Road Bridge has been constructed, while construction of noise walls and a shared-use path continues.
