I-66 at Route 29 in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The first 1,000 spaces are open at the University Boulevard Park and Ride lot. An additional 1,000 spaces are being built. University Boulevard is being modified for future Express Lanes access to and from the east.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
I-66 West from Route 234 Business to Route 29 Gainesville
Ongoing
Single and multi-lane closures will be implemented for extended paving operations. The HOV lane will be closed indefinitely. Between noon and 8 p.m. daily, three travel lanes will be open to all traffic. Between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. nightly, three lanes will be closed, leaving one travel lane open. Between 6 a.m. and noon daily, two lanes will be closed, leaving two travel lanes open.

I-66 East and West from Route 29 Gainesville to Prince William Parkway (Route 234 Bypass)
Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work at University Boulevard.

I-66 at Sudley Road/Route 234

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Clearing and blasting continue to make room for future construction activities. A new bridge is being built for the ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

I-66 West from Route 234 Business to Route 29 Gainesville
Ongoing
Single and multi-lane closures will be implemented for extended paving operations. The HOV lane will be closed indefinitely. Between noon and 8 p.m. daily, three travel lanes will be open to all traffic. Between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. nightly, three lanes will be closed, leaving one travel lane open. Between 6 a.m. and noon daily, two lanes will be closed, leaving two travel lanes open.

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 234 Business North and South
Tuesday, May 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for drainage installation. Traffic will be directed to exit prior to the closure at Exit 44 (Route 234 Bypass) South, turn left on to Balls Ford Road to Route 234 Business.

Ramp from Route 234 Business South to I-66 East
Wednesday, May 27, through Friday, May 29: 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
The spur ramp from southbound Route 234 Business to eastbound I-66 will be closed for drainage installation. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south, stay to the left and make a U-turn at the traffic signal for Balls Ford Road, then follow signs to I-66 East.

I-66 West near Bull Run
Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29: 11 a.m. to noon
Temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic for blasting operations.

Vandor Lane from Route 234 Business to Rest Area
Ongoing, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Flagging operation for utility work.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The new bridge for Route 28 North over I-66 is being constructed along with multiple ramps and flyovers at the interchange. Abutments are being built for the new bridge connecting Braddock and Walney Roads. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

Ramp from Route 29 North and South to I-66 East
Wednesday, May 27, through Friday, May 29: midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for drainage work. Traffic will be directed to Route 28 to access I-66 East.

I-66 East and West between Route 29 Centreville and Stringfellow Road
Route 28 North and South between Route 29 and Braddock Road
Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29: 11 a.m. to noon
Temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic for blasting operations.

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North
Nightly, through June 14
Monday through Friday: 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The ramp will be closed nightly to haul material. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right for I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
Thursday, May 28: 9:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for sign removal. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, stay to the right for Route 29 North, continue to stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North.

Route 28 North from Braddock Road to Westfields Boulevard
Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29: 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for paving.

Route 28 South from Westfields Boulevard to Braddock Road
Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for paving.

I-66 at Fairfax County Parkway/Route 286

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Utility work and clearing continue for upcoming construction activities. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant impacts scheduled.

I-66 at Route 50

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Express lanes access will be added at Route 50 to and from the east. Preparation is happening for rebuilding the Waples Mill Road bridge over I-66. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built.

Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for bridge construction at Waples Mill Road.

I-66 East from Route 50 to Jermantown Road
Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The HOV lane will be closed for bridge pier construction.

I-66 at Chain Bridge Road/Route 123

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Multiple traffic pattern changes will occur as exit ramps are moved and added to accommodate new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the future shared use path. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built along I-66.

Tuesday, May 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead gantry removal. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

I-66 East between Waples Mill Road and Route 123
Wednesday, May 27: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead gantry removal. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

Thursday, May 28, and Friday, May 29: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for sign removal.

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Vaden Drive bridge over I-66 is being demolished and rebuilt. The new bridge is expected to open in Sept. 2020. Work will begin on the new Nutley Street Interchange in 2020.

Cedar Lane between Cottage Street to Hilltop Drive
Ongoing, through November
Cedar Lane over I-66 will be closed for demolition and reconstruction of the bridge.

I-66 West from Gallows Road to Cedar Lane
Thursday, May 28: 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., and 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, May 29: 9:30 p.m. to 11 a.m.
A single lane will be closed during the daytime hours on Thursday and Saturday (from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m.) for bridge work. Two lanes will be closed during the overnight hours on Thursday and Friday (from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.)

I-66 East from Nutley Street to Cedar Lane
Thursday, May 28: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Saturday, May 30 at 8:30 p.m., through noon on Sunday, May 31
A single lane will be closed for bridge demolition at Cedar Lane.

Saintsbury Drive from Vaden Drive to Blake Lane
Continuing through Friday, May 29: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Flagging operation for utility work.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Bridge piers are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new pier and abutments are being built for the new Gallows Road bridge.

Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North

The right lane of two will be closed for bridge pier construction.

I-66 West at I-495
Wednesday, May 27, through Friday, May 29: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
A single lane will be closed for crews to implement a traffic shift.

I-495 North from Route 29 to I-66
Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29: 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for bridge construction.

I-495 South from Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) to I-66
Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
