Lane Closures

I-66 East from Compton Road to Route 29 Centreville
Wednesday, Jan. 22: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead gantry removal. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

Ramp from Route 29 North in Centreville to I-66 East
Ongoing through May 2020
The left-turn lane and ramp from northbound Route 29 to I-66 East will be closed for approximately four months. Drivers on Route 29 North will be directed to stay to the left and continue to the intersection at Trinity Parkway/Machen Road. At the traffic signal, drivers will use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right, and follow signs to I-66 East. As an alternate route, drivers can continue farther north to Route 28 North, stay to the right, and follow signs to I-66 East.

Stringfellow Road between Fair Lakes Boulevard and Village Square Drive
Ongoing through January
The right lane of southbound Stringfellow Road will be closed for underground utility relocation. The lane will be reopened weekdays between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. to accommodate the evening rush.

EC Lawrence Park
A new access road and entrance to E.C. Lawrence Park from Stonecroft Boulevard on the north side of the park, near Westfields Boulevard, is now open. Drivers should use an address of 5000 Stonecroft Boulevard, Chantilly, for navigation and trip routing. The existing park entrance from Route 28 is no longer accessible.

I-66 at Route 29 in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The first 1,000 spaces are open at the University Boulevard Park and Ride lot. An additional 1,000 spaces are being built. University Boulevard is being modified for future Express Lanes access to and from the east.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.

I-66 at Sudley Road/Route 234

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Clearing and blasting continue to make room for future construction activities. A new bridge is being built for the ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
I-66 East and West between Sudley Road and Bull Run Rest Area Ramps from Sudley Road to I-66 East
Tuesday, Jan. 21, through Friday, Jan. 24: 11 a.m. to noon
Temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic on I-66 East and West for blasting operations. Additionally, stoppages will occur on the ramp from Sudley Road to I-66 East. Stoppages may also be needed on Vandor Lane.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The new bridge for Route 28 North over I-66 is being constructed along with multiple ramps and flyovers at the interchange. Abutments are being built for the new bridge connecting Braddock and Walney Roads. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

I-66 East and West between Route 29 Centreville and Stringfellow Road Route 28 North and South between Route 29 and Braddock Road Ramp from Route 28 North to I-66 East
Tuesday, Jan. 21, through Friday, Jan. 24: 11 a.m. to noon

Route 29 Centreville North and South at I-66
Sunday, Jan. 19: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The left lane will be closed on northbound and southbound Route 29 at I-66 for bridge demolition activities.

I-66 West from Route 28 to Route 29 Centreville Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 Centreville
Tuesday, Jan. 21: 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for overhead cantilever sign removal. Additionally, the ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 Centreville will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. Drivers will be directed prior to the closure to Route 28 South, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South.

Route 28 South from Westfields Boulevard to Braddock Road
Tuesday, Jan. 21: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for overhead cantilever sign removal.

I-66 East from Compton Road to Route 29 Centreville
Wednesday, Jan. 22: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead gantry removal. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

Ramp from Route 29 Centreville South to I-66 East
Thursday, Jan 23: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for utility work. Drivers will be directed farther south to Stone Road, make a U-turn onto Route 29 North and follow signs to Route 28 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.

Ongoing through May 2020

I-66 at Route 50

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Express lanes access will be added at Route 50 to and from the east. Preparation is happening for rebuilding the Waples Mill Road bridge over I-66. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built.

No significant traffic impacts scheduled.

I-66 at Chain Bridge Road/Route 123

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Multiple traffic pattern changes will occur as exit ramps are moved and added to accommodate new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the future shared use path. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built along I-66.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)
Tuesday, Jan. 21: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for utility work. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 50 East, stay to the left for I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 123.

I-66 at Nutley Street

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Vaden Drive bridge over I-66 is being demolished and rebuilt. The new bridge is expected to open in Sept. 2020. Work will begin on the new Nutley Street Interchange in 2020.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
I-66 West from Nutley Street to Blake Lane
Friday, Jan. 17: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead gantry removal. Drivers should expect slowdowns and periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Bridge piers are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new pier and abutments are being built for the new Gallows Road bridge.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
