I-66 at Route 29 in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The first 1,000 spaces are open at the University Boulevard Park and Ride lot. An additional 1,000 spaces are being built. University Boulevard is being modified for future Express Lanes access to and from the east.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
I-66 East and West from Route 234 (Prince William Parkway) to Route 29 Gainesville
Monday, August 10, through Friday, August 14: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work at University Boulevard.

I-66 East and West between Route 29 Gainesville and Groveton Road University Boulevard between Route 29 and Rail Line Court
Monday, August 10, through Friday, August 14: 11 a.m. to noon
Temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic for blasting operations.

I-66 West from Manassas Safety Rest Area to Route 29 Gainesville
Ongoing
Single and multi-lane closures will be implemented for extended paving operations. The HOV lane will be closed indefinitely. Between noon and 8 p.m. daily, three travel lanes will be open to all traffic. Between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. nightly, three lanes will be closed, leaving one travel lane open. Between 6 a.m. and noon daily, two lanes will be closed, leaving two travel lanes open.

I-66 at Sudley Road/Route 234

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Clearing and blasting continue to make room for future construction activities. A new bridge is being built for the ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

I-66 East and West between Route 29 Gainesville and Groveton Road University Boulevard between Route 29 and Rail Line Court
Monday, August 10, through Friday, August 14: 11 a.m. to noon
Temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic for blasting operations.

I-66 East from Bull Run to Compton Road
Starting 9 p.m., Friday, August 14, continuously through 5 a.m., Monday, August 17
Single and multi-lane closures will be implemented for bridge work. The right lane will be closed starting around 9 p.m., Friday night, August 14, through 5 a.m. Monday morning, August 17. Two lanes will be closed nightly between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. (4 a.m. Monday morning).

I-66 West from Compton Road to Bull Run
Starting 10 p.m., Friday, August 14, continuously through 5 a.m., Monday, August 17
Single and multi-lane closures will be implemented for bridge work. The right lane will be closed starting around 10 p.m. Friday night, August 14, through 5 a.m. Monday morning, August 17. Two lanes will be closed nightly between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. (4 a.m. Monday morning).

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The new bridge for Route 28 North over I-66 is being constructed along with multiple ramps and flyovers at the interchange. Abutments are being built for the new bridge connecting Braddock and Walney Roads. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

Temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic for blasting operations.

Route 28 North and South between E.C. Lawrence Park Athletic Fields and Route 29
Monday, August 10, through Thursday, August 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Route 28 North and South will be reduced to a single travel lane in each direction for bridge beam placement at Braddock Road/Walney Road. Two-way traffic will run on the northbound lanes of Route 28.

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North
Monday, August 10, through Friday, August 14: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 North, stay to the right for I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North.

Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West
Monday, August 10, through Thursday, August 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be detoured farther south to Route 29 South, follow signs to I-66 West and make a left at the traffic signal to access I-66 West.

Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East
Monday, August 10, through Thursday, August 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp and two left turn lanes from Route 28 South to I-66 East will be closed. Traffic will be detoured farther south to Route 29 North, stay right and follow signs to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East.

Braddock Road between Newton Patent Drive and Route 28
Monday, August 10, through Thursday, August 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Starting 10 p.m., Friday, August 14, continuously through 5 a.m., Monday, August 17
Braddock Road will be closed between Newton Patent Drive and Route 28. Traffic will be directed to Westfields Boulevard to access Braddock Road and/or Route 28.

Route 28 South between Westfields Boulevard and Route 29 Centreville
Friday, August 14: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Route 28 South will be reduced to a single lane for overhead bridge work.

Ramp from Route 28 North and South to I-66 East
Sunday, August 9, through Thursday, August 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, August 14, and Saturday, August 15: 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.
One lane of two on the ramp from Route 28 North and South to I-66 East will be closed for material hauling. Drivers should expect periodic brief stoppages for trucks to enter roadway.

Route 28 North at I-66

The right lane is closed to provide an extended merge lane for the ramp from I-66 East to northbound Route 28.

Route 28 North from I-66 to Westfields Boulevard
Ongoing
Between 8 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. nightly, two lanes will be closed for crews to implement a traffic shift and paving. Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily, one lane will be closed.

I-66 at Fairfax County Parkway/Route 286

Express lanes access will be added at Route 50 to and from the east. Preparation is happening for rebuilding the Waples Mill Road bridge over I-66. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built.

Monday, August 10, through Friday, August 14: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The HOV lane will be closed for bridge pier construction.

I-66 West from Jermantown Road to Route 50
Monday, August 10, through Thursday, August 13: 9:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
Friday, August 14: 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for bridge construction. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20-minutes between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m.

I-66 East from West Ox Road to Waples Mill Road
Monday, August 10, and Friday, August 14: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for bridge construction. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20-minutes between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m.

I-66 West from Route 50 to Route 286
Monday, August 10, Wednesday, August 12, and Thursday, August 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for crews to implement traffic shift.

I-66 East from Monument Drive to Waples Mill Road
Continuing through Saturday, August 22
The HOV lane will be closed for bridge pier construction.

Route 50 East at I-66 Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East

I-66 West from Route 50 to Fairfax County Parkway

I-66 at Chain Bridge Road/Route 123

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Multiple traffic pattern changes will occur as exit ramps are moved and added to accommodate new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the future shared use path. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built along I-66.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
I-66 East from Waples Mill Road to Jermantown Road
Monday, August 10, through Friday, August 14: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The HOV lane will be closed for bridge pier construction.

I-66 East from Jermantown Road to Route 123
Thursday, August 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect slowdowns and periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

I-66 at Nutley Street

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Vaden Drive bridge over I-66 is being demolished and rebuilt. The new bridge is expected to open in Sept. 2020. Work will begin on the new Nutley Street Interchange in 2020.

I-66 East from Vaden Drive to Cedar Lane
Monday, August 10, through Thursday, August 13: 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane for bridge beam installation at Cedar Lane. Drivers should expect periodic 30-minute stoppages between 10 p.m. and 3:30 a.m.

I-66 West from I-495 to Cedar Lane
Sunday, August 9, through Thursday, August 13: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The left lane will be closed Friday night, August 7, and Saturday night, August 8, for bridge pier construction at Cedar Lane. Sunday, August 9, through Thursday, August 13, I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane nightly.

Route 243 (Nutley Street) North and South between Virginia Center Boulevard and Saintsbury Drive
Thursday, August 13, and Friday, August 14: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for crews to implement lane shifts.

Cedar Lane between Hilltop Drive and Cottage Street
Ongoing through November
Cedar Lane will be closed over I-66 for demolition and reconstruction of the bridge.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Bridge piers are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new pier and abutments are being built for the new Gallows Road bridge.

I-66 West from I-495 to Cedar Lane
Sunday, August 9, through Thursday, August 13: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The left lane will be closed Friday night, August 7, and Saturday night, August 8, for bridge pier construction at Cedar Lane. Sunday, August 9, through Thursday, August 13, I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane nightly.

I-495 North from Route 29 to I-66
Tuesday, August 11, through Friday, August 14: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Two left lanes will be closed for bridge construction.

Ramp from I-66 East to 495 Express Lanes South
Thursday, August 13: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for utility work. Traffic will be directed to take the I-495 South general purpose lanes.

I-66 East from Gallows Road to I-495
Friday, August 14: 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
