I-66 at Route 29 in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The first 1,000 spaces are open at the University Boulevard Park and Ride lot. An additional 1,000 spaces are being built. University Boulevard is being modified for future Express Lanes access to and from the east.

I-66 East and West between Groveton Road and Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)
Monday, September 21, through Thursday, September 24: 11 a.m. to noon
Temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic for blasting operations.

I-66 East from Route 29 Gainesville to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)
Ongoing
Single and multi-lane closures will be implemented for extended paving operations. The HOV lane will be closed indefinitely. Between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. daily, three travel lanes will be open to traffic. Between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily, two lanes will be closed, leaving two travel lanes open. Between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. nightly, three lanes will be closed, leaving one travel lane open.

I-66 at Sudley Road/Route 234

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Clearing and blasting continue to make room for future construction activities. A new bridge is being built for the ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

I-66 East from Route 234 Business to Bull Run
Monday, September 21, through Friday, September 25: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for bridge beam installation and bridge work at Bull Run.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South to
Tuesday, September 22, through Friday, September 25: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed prior to the closure to Route 234 Business North, turn right at the traffic signal on to Battleview Parkway, turn right on Infantry Ridge Road, left on Battleview Parkway, and then right at the traffic signal on to Route 234 Business South.

I-66 East and West between Groveton Road and Route 234 Business
Monday, September 21, through Thursday, September 24: 11 a.m. to noon

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The new bridge for Route 28 North over I-66 is being constructed along with multiple ramps and flyovers at the interchange. Abutments are being built for the new bridge connecting Braddock and Walney Roads. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

Route 29 North at I-66
Tuesday, September 22, through Friday, September 25: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Route 29 North will be reduced to one travel lane for overhead bridge work.

I-66 West from Route 29 Centreville to Cub Run

The HOV lane will be closed for paving operations.

Route 28 North and South between Braddock Road/Walney Road and I-66
Sunday, September 20, through Friday, September 25: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for bridge work.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
Tuesday, September 22, through Friday, September 25: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 North, then stay to the right and follow signs for Route 28 North.

Route 28 South to I-66 East
Beginning on or about Friday morning, September 25
The two left-turn lanes and spur ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East will close during the early morning hours. Drivers on Route 28 South will access I-66 East using a new loop ramp on the right side of Route 28 South.

Route 28 North from Route 29 to I-66
Thursday, September 24: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, September 25, and Saturday, September 26: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Route 28 North will be reduced to one travel lane for crews to restripe roadway and implement a traffic shift.

Route 28 North at I-66

The right lane of Route 28 North at I-66 will remain closed to provide an extended merge lane for the ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North.

I-66 at Fairfax County Parkway/Route 286

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Utility work and clearing continue for upcoming construction activities. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built.

The right lane will be closed for bridge work.

I-66 East and West between Route 50 and Stringfellow Road
Sunday, September 20, through Wednesday, September 23: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead gantry removal. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.

I-66 at Chain Bridge Road/Route 123

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Multiple traffic pattern changes will occur as exit ramps are moved and added to accommodate new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the future shared use path. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built along I-66.

Monday, September 21, through Thursday, September 24: 9:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
Friday, September 25: 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for bridge work.

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 123
Sunday, September 20, and Monday, September 21: 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
There will be three stoppages of traffic on the ramp each night for Dominion Energy to install overhead utility lines.

I-66 East and West between Jermantown Road and Blake Lane
Monday, September 21, through Friday, September 25: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-66 East and West will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Route 123 for overhead utility work.

I-66 East and West between Cedar Lane and Blake Lane
Monday, September 21, through Friday, September 25: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-66 East and West will be reduced to one travel lane for overhead bridge work at Vaden Drive.

Right Turn Lane from Route 123 South to Rose Forest Drive

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Vaden Drive bridge over I-66 is being demolished and rebuilt. The new bridge is expected to open in Sept. 2020. Work will begin on the new Nutley Street Interchange in 2020.

I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Bridge piers are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new pier and abutments are being built for the new Gallows Road bridge.

I-495 North and South Between Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) and Route 29
Monday, September 21, through Friday, September 25: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for bridge construction.

Dorr Avenue at Prosperity Avenue
Ongoing, starting Thursday, September 24
Dorr Avenue will be closed at Prosperity Avenue for underground utility work. Traffic will be detoured to Merrifield Avenue, Merrilee Drive, and Prosperity Avenue. Dorr Avenue will remain open south of Prosperity Avenue for local traffic.

I-66 West from Gallows Road to Vaden Drive

The HOV lane will be closed for paving operations.
