Trails

The Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project includes construction of 11 miles of paved trail along I-66, as well as connections to other trails and significant bike and pedestrian improvements at many interchanges along the corridor.  VDOT and its private partner, I-66 Express Mobility Partners are working closely with Fairfax and Prince William counties, bike advocacy groups, homeowners associations and local residents to advance the design of these planned trail facilities.

Property Impacts

VDOT and the I-66 Express Mobility Partners team have worked to minimize the right of way required for the project while maintaining the most effective and viable transportation solutions for the 22.5-mile corridor. Outreach to affected property owners began in early 2017 and will continue as needed throughout the project.

Procurement and Contractor/Business Opportunities

I-66 Express Mobility Partners will finance, design, build, maintain and operate the Transform 66 project under the Virginia's Public-Private Transportation Act.  Learn more about this arrangement, as well as opportunities for contractors and other businesses to participate in the project.

Concession Fee Projects

As part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project Comprehensive Agreement, I-66 Express Mobility Partners committed to payment of a concession fee to the Commonwealth of Virginia. Five hundred million dollars from the concession fee will be used for additional transportation improvements in the I-66 Outside the Beltway corridor through projects recommended by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) and approved by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB).

Noise Walls

The Transform 66 Project will be replacing and constructing new noise walls in many places along the project corridor.

Corridor Revegetation

As project construction completes, planting of grasses, shrubs, and trees will occur where feasible in the project limits. Plantings from approved VDOT and local government lists will be used, which includes native and other species appropriate for planting in the roadside environment. Planting will generally happen in the next available planting season following completion of work. Plantings will have a one-year establishment period.
