Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges Next Week, June 1-5, for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at several I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Overnight Full Closures of Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) at I-66 Continue Next Week for Overhead Bridge Beam Installation

FAIRFAX – Overnight full closures of Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) will continue next week, Tuesday, June 1, through Thursday, June 3, for installation of overhead bridge beams. A full closure of northbound Route 286 is planned for Tuesday night, with all southbound lanes scheduled to be closed Wednesday and Thursday nights. Friday night will be used as backup should inclement conditions occur. The I-66 bridges over Route 286 are being widened as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

I-66 East and West Manassas Rest Area will be Closed to Trucks for Approximately Three Weeks Starting on or about Monday, June 7

FAIRFAX – Beginning on or about Monday, June 7, the truck parking areas at the Manassas Rest Area East on I-66 East (mile marker 48) and the Manassas Rest Area West on I-66 West (mile marker 48) will be closed for approximately three weeks.

FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages on I-66 East and West approaching Vaden Drive in Vienna are scheduled to occur Tuesday, June 1, through Saturday, June 5, for installation of beams for the new Express Lanes access ramps at Vaden Drive. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Gallows Road over I-66 to be Reduced to a Single Travel Lane in Each Direction During Overnight Hours Next Week, May 24 -29, for Continued Utility Work

FAIRFAX – Gallows Road over I-66 will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction during overnight hours Monday, May 24, through Saturday, May 29, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night. The southbound side of Gallows Road will be closed with two-way traffic running on the northbound side. The closures are necessary for utility work on the bridge as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Overnight full closures of Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) will continue next week, Monday, May 24, through Wednesday, May 26, for installation of overhead bridge beams. Route 286 North is planned to close on Monday night, switching to full closure of Route 286 South on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Thursday and Friday nights will be used as backup should inclement conditions occur. The I-66 bridges over Route 286 are being widened as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Overnight full closures of Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) are planned Tuesday, May 18, through Saturday, May 22, to allow crews to install overhead bridge beams. Full closures are planned on northbound Route 286 on Tuesday and Saturday nights, and on southbound on Wednesday through Friday nights. The I-66 bridges over Route 286 are being widened as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Traffic Stoppages Planned on I-66 East and West Near Monument Drive in Fairfax for Utility Work on Tuesday Night, May 18

FAIRFAX – Traffic stoppages are planned for I-66 East and West approaching Monument Drive on Tuesday, May 18, between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., so that Dominion Energy can work on overhead lines. Traffic on I-66 will be stopped three times in both directions simultaneously for up to 20 minutes each to accommodate this work, which is needed for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

I-66 West Travel Lanes Approaching Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) to Shift to New Roadway Configuration on or about May 21

FAIRFAX – The travel lanes on westbound I-66 between Blake Lane and Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) will be shifted into a new configuration for approximately two months, beginning on or about May 21, 2021. When this traffic change is implemented, the left (HOV) lane will be separated from the three general purpose lanes by a barrier-enclosed construction area. Drivers will be directed by signs and message boards to stay to the right at the lane split to access Route 123 North and South. The HOV lane will be a thru-lane only with no access to Route 123.

Access to I-66 East from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Ramps in Centreville Changing on or about Sunday Night, May 16

FAIRFAX – The left-turn lane and ramp from Route 29 (Lee Highway) North to I-66 East is planned to reopen on Sunday night, May 16, and will be followed by closure of the ramp from Route 29 South to I-66 East for a three-week period. During the closure, drivers on Route 29 South will access I-66 East a short distance farther south on Route 29 by turning right at the traffic signal to the ramp from Route 29 North to I-66 East.

Jermantown Road Bridge Demolition Begins May 14 with Overnight Lane Closures, Traffic Stoppages Planned on I-66 Throughout Weekend, Next Week

FAIRFAX – Demolition of the Jermantown Road Bridge over I-66 is planned to begin Friday night, May 14, following opening of the new bridge earlier that day. Seven nights of demolition activity are anticipated, and will require overnight lane closures on I-66 East and West between Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) and Waples Mills Road. Work is planned to occur nightly from Friday, May 14, through Thursday, May 20. The Jermantown Road Bridge is being replaced as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

New Jermantown Road Bridge Over I-66 to Open on or about May 13; Demolition of Current Bridge Planned to Begin on or about May 14

FAIRFAX – The new Jermantown Road Bridge over I-66 is planned to open next week, with demolition of the old bridge to begin the following night. Jermantown Road traffic is scheduled to be shifted to the new crossing over I-66 on or about Thursday, May 13, with demolition to begin on Friday night, May 14.

FAIRFAX – All lanes of I-66 East and West approaching Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) are scheduled to be closed during the overnight hours May 7-8 to allow for installation of bridge beams for the new Route 123 South Bridge over I-66 as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. I-66 traffic will be detoured around the closure using the ramps at the Route 123 Interchange. Route 123 will remain open during these operations, but drivers should expect possible delays crossing over I-66. Police will be on scene to direct traffic.
