FAIRFAX – Drivers should expect possible delays on I-66 West between Manassas and Gainesville beginning during the daytime hours Wednesday, August 31, due to a long-term closure of the left travel lane, which will be in place around-the-clock through Saturday, September 10. The left lane closure will reduce this section of westbound I-66 to three travel lanes from west of Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) near Groveton Road to Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville. Additional lane closures will occur in this area during the overnight hours. These lane closures will allow crews to complete work for this section of roadway in preparation for the opening of the future 66 Express Lanes Outside the Beltway later this year.

FAIRFAX – The ramp from northbound Route 29 (Lee Highway) to I-66 West in Centreville will be closed during the daytime hours Wednesday, August 31, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther north to Machen Road/Trinity Parkway, stay to the left and make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – The I-66 East Manassas Safety Rest Area (mile marker 48.7) will be closed tonight, Wednesday, August 24, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. due to flexible delineator post installation related to the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. All facilities will be inaccessible.

FAIRFAX – Drivers exiting I-66 East to Route 50 West will use a new combined exit approximately one mile prior to (west of) Route 50 beginning on or about Tuesday morning, August 30. The new exit location is immediately before the Monument Drive Bridge over I-66 and provides access to Route 50 East and West. This will be the permanent location of Exit 57 A/B as part of the Transform 66 Outside of the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Northbound I-495 will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching I-66 during the overnight hours this Friday, August 26, and Saturday, August 27, for the installation of overhead bridge beams. The beams are needed to widen the ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North for connections from the future I-66 Express Lanes. The ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North will also be closed both nights in conjunction with this work. In addition to these closures, the northbound 495 Express Lanes will be closed on Friday night to accomplish this work, which is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – The ramps from I-66 West to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North and South in Gainesville will be closed tonight, Monday, August 22, from midnight to 4 a.m., and tomorrow night Tuesday, August 23, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for paving.  Traffic will be directed farther west to Route 15, stay to the left and use the left-most lane to Route 15 South, staying to the left to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South. The work is as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – The first new exit ramp and bridge for the under-construction I-66/I-495 Interchange is scheduled to open ahead of schedule beginning on or about Thursday morning, August 25. Drivers on northbound I-495 will exit to westbound I-66 using the new flyover ramp, located one-half mile south of (prior to) the old exit ramp, and prior to the ramp heading to eastbound I-66. Once the new I-495 North to I-66 West ramp opens, the old exit ramp will close to allow for construction of a new ramp to connect to the future westbound 66 Express Lanes. Drivers should use caution and follow roadway signs when traveling in this area.

FAIRFAX – The left travel lane on I-66 East between Cedar Lane and I-495 will be closed beginning around 9 p.m. Friday, August 19, through 5 a.m. Thursday, August 25, to allow for continued construction of the future I-66 Express Lanes in the center portion of the roadway as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Drivers will still be able to access the I-495 general-purpose lanes and the 495 Express Lanes.

FAIRFAX – The first new exit ramp and bridge for the under-construction I-66/I-495 interchange is scheduled to open ahead of schedule beginning on or about next Thursday morning, August 25.

UPDATE (8/26): The I-66 East to Route 50 West ramp will close at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26 for work to begin.

UPDATE (8/18): The full weekend ramp closure has been rescheduled to this weekend (August 19-22) and next weekend (August 26-29), with the changes to the exit from I-66 East to Route 50 East and West now planned to occur on Monday, August 29.

FAIRFAX – The ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 West will be closed next weekend, beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, August 12, continuously through 5 a.m. Monday, August 15.  Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, and then follow signs to Route 50 West. The work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
