FAIRFAX, VA – Governor Glenn Youngkin joined Virginia Secretary of Transportation W. Sheppard Miller III, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and other federal, state and local officials, as well as the Commonwealth’s private partner, I-66 Express Mobility Partners (a consortium of private developers Cintra, Meridiam, and APG), and the design-build contractor, FAM Construction (a joint venture between Ferrovial Construction and Allan Myers), today at a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially recognize the opening of the 66 Express Lanes Outside the Beltway. The final section of new lanes opened on Tuesday, Nov. 22, providing a total of 22.5 miles of express lanes on Interstate 66 from I-495 (the Capital Beltway) to Route 29 in Gainesville.

FAIRFAX – Drivers traveling from the northbound 495 Express Lanes to the I-66 West general-purpose lanes will begin using a new exit starting Monday morning, Nov. 14. The new ramp is located on the right approximately 500 feet north of (after) the current ramp and just prior to the exit to I-66 East. This ramp is a permanent feature of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

FAIRFAX – Reconstruction and paving of the permanent ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 South will continue this weekend, Nov. 11-14. For crews to safely perform the work, the ramp will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, continuously through noon Monday, Nov. 14. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

The new ramp is located on the right side of I-66 East just after the Cedar Lane Bridge over I-66 and about one-mile after (east of) the I-66/Nutley Street Interchange. This ramp is a permanent feature of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project and will be the only way for motorists to reach the 495 Express Lanes from the I-66 East general-purpose lanes.

FAIRFAX – The right-side loop ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to I-66 East is scheduled to reopen on or about Monday, November 7, as part of the permanent traffic pattern at the I-66/Route 28 Interchange. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

The ramp will reopen later this year as a full-time, Express Lanes-only ramp. The ramp will no longer provide access from the I-66 general-purpose lanes to Stringfellow Road.
