READ FULL RELEASEUPDATE (Sept. 22, 2023): The weekend-long right lane closure on I-66 East between the Nutley Street interchange and Gallows Road overpass previously scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled due to the forecasted rain. The triple lane closures in this area of I-66 East remain scheduled nightly Monday, Sept.25-Saturday, Sept. 30.
FAIRFAX – The right lane of eastbound I-66 just east of the Nutley Street interchange (west of the Gallows Road overpass in Merrifield) is scheduled to be closed throughout the entire weekend beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, for crews to install permanent roadway barrier as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. On Friday night, an additional right lane will also be closed in that area from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for this work.

Traffic will be detoured farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 West. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Traffic will be directed farther south to Route 29, turn left at the second traffic signal to Route 29 North, turn left at the next traffic signal following signs to Route 286 North, then exit to I-66 East.
