I-66 at Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow construction of new express lanes in the center. A new ramp is being built between University Boulevard and I-66 that will connect the new park-and-ride lot with the future Express Lanes. The first 1,000 spaces of the lot opened in 2019. An additional 1,000 spaces and access from Route 29 are being built.

Beginning at 5 a.m. Thursday, July 29, continuously through 8 a.m. Saturday, July 31
University Boulevard over I-66 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction for a concrete deck pour.

I-66 at Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow construction of new express lanes in the center. The new Balls Ford Park and Ride Lot is being built with a ramp connection to the express lanes. A new bridge and ramp connection have been built for travel from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges and ramp connections are being constructed between Route 28 and I-66 general purpose and express lanes. A new bridge has opened connecting Braddock and Walney Roads and providing expanded access to Route 28 and I-66. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 (Lee Highway) are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

The ramp will be closed. Traffic is directed to exit to Braddock Road/Walney Road, turn left at the traffic signal at the top of the ramp, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to Route 28 South.

Friday night, July 30, and Saturday night, July 31: Midnight to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to continue south, exit to Route 29 Centreville (Lee Highway) North, travel about one mile then follow signs to I-66 West.

Route 29 (Lee Highway) North and South Centreville at I-66
Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, July 23, continuously through 4 a.m. Monday, July 26
Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, July 30, continuously through 4 a.m. Monday, August 2
Route 29 will be reduced to a single travel lane in each direction under I-66 to allow for installation of bridge beams for new I-66 bridges. Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday night through Saturday evening, two-way traffic will run in the northbound lanes of Route 29. Starting around 6 p.m. on Saturday night, two-way traffic will run in the southbound lanes of Route 29. Drivers using ramps to and from I-66 will not be allowed to make left turns during this time. Flaggers will alternate a single lane of traffic in both directions during the overnight hours on Friday and Saturday nights.

Two lanes will be closed for I-66 bridge beam installation over Route 29. Drivers should expect stoppages of up to 20 minutes during overnight hours.

Monday, July 26, and Tuesday, July 27: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Friday, July 30, and Saturday, July 31: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed Monday and Tuesday, and two lanes will be closed Friday and Saturday for bridge beam installation over Route 29. Drivers should expect stoppages of up to 20 minutes during the overnight hours.

I-66 at Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
I-66 bridges over Fairfax County Parkway and Stringfellow Road are being expanded to make room for express lanes and shifted general purpose lanes. The Monument Drive Bridge over I-66 will be modified to add express lanes ramps to and from the west. Retaining walls and noise walls are being completed across much of this part of the corridor.

I-66 West between Route 50 and Route 286
Saturday, July 24: 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
I-66 West will be closed approaching Route 50 for crews to implement a traffic shift. All traffic will be directed to exit the interstate to Route 50 West, exit to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 West. Traffic will then travel in a single lane to the I-66 West/Route 286 Interchange, where I-66 West will resume with multiple lanes open.

The Nutley Street Interchange has been temporarily reconfigured to allow for the construction of a ”double roundabout” where Nutley Street crosses I-66. The Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane bridges over I-66 have been demolished and rebuilt. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

Three lanes will be closed for installation of bridge beams for new ramps at Vaden Drive and to relocate a crane. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes during the overnight hours.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Bridge piers, abutments, and deck are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new Gallows Road bridge is being constructed in two phases, which will require demolition of the old bridge. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.
