I-66 at Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow space for the new express lanes in the center. A new ramp has been built between University Boulevard and I-66 that connects the new park-and-ride lot with the express lanes. The first 1,000 spaces of the lot opened in 2019. Additional spaces will be opened in 2023 to bring the total to 2,000.

Route 29 (Lee Highway) North and South from University Boulevard to I-66
Monday, February 6, through Friday, February 10: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
One lane will be closed daily for road widening.

University Boulevard East and West from Route 29 to I-66
Monday, February 6, through Friday, February 10: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
One lane will be closed daily for road widening.

I-66 at Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow space for the new express lanes in the center. The new Balls Ford Park and Ride Lot opened in Sept. 2022, and will have a total of 1,300 spaces available by summer 2023. The lot connects directly to the express lanes. A new bridge and ramp connection have been built for travel from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

I-66 West from the Manassas Safety Rest Area to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)
Monday, February 6, through Thursday, February 9: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work and drainage work.

I-66 East at Bull Run Drive
Wednesday, February 8: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for bridge work.

I-66 East at Compton Road
Thursday, February 9: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for bridge work.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges and ramp connections have been constructed between Route 28 and the I-66 general-purpose and express lanes. A new bridge connects Braddock and Walney Roads and provides expanded access to Route 28 and I-66. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 (Lee Highway) have been rebuilt to accommodate the express lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

Thursday, February 9: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West
Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to I-66 West
Thursday, February 9: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramps will be closed for noise wall work. Traffic from Braddock Road and Walney Road will be directed to Route 28 South. Route 28 South traffic will continue farther south, exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Thursday, February 9: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramps will be closed for noise wall installation. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

I-66 West from Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) to Route 28
Thursday, February 9: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes of the interstate and the left lane of the westbound collector-distributor road at Route 286 will be closed for overhead bridge work.

MAIN ACTIVITIES
I-66 bridges over Route 286 and Stringfellow Road have been expanded to make room for the express lanes and the shifted general-purpose lanes. The Monument Drive Bridge over I-66 has been modified to add express lanes ramps to and from the west. Retaining walls and noise walls have been completed across much of this part of the corridor.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
I-66 East from Stringfellow Road to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)
Monday night, February 6, through Wednesday night, February 8: Midnight to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed each night for overhead bridge work.

I-66 West from Route 286 to Route 28
Thursday, February 9: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes of the interstate and the left lane of the westbound collector-distributor road at Route 286 will be closed for overhead bridge work.

I-66 at Route 50

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New Route 50 bridges over I-66 have been built as express lanes access has been added to and from the east. The Waples Mill Road Bridge was rebuilt with improved bike and pedestrian access to include shared-use path access through the interchange. Retaining walls and noise walls were also constructed as part of the project.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
Wednesday, February 8: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Both travel lanes of the ramp will be closed for barrier removal. The ramp will remain open with traffic detoured along the shoulder of the exit.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 East
Tuesday night, February 7: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for barrier removal. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 East.

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 West
Friday night, February 10: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for barrier removal. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) North, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges have been built and exit ramps moved and/or added to accommodate the new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the shared-use path. Retaining walls and noise walls were also constructed as part of the project.

I-66 West at Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)
Monday, February 6: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

Ramp from 66 Express Lanes East to Route 123
Wednesday, February 8, and Thursday, February 9: 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed both nights for light pole work.

I-66 at Nutley Street

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Nutley Street Interchange has been temporarily reconfigured to allow for the construction of a "double roundabout" where Nutley Street crosses I-66. The Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane bridges over I-66 have been demolished and rebuilt. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
There are no significant traffic impacts planned.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges and ramps connect the 66 Express Lanes with the I-495 general-purpose and 495 Express Lanes. A new Gallows Road Bridge has been constructed, while construction of noise walls and a shared-use path continues.

Monday, February 6, through Wednesday, February 8: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The eastbound express lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

495 Express Lanes North from Gallows Road to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike)
Tuesday, February 7: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The road will be closed for barrier removal.

495 Express Lanes South from Route 7 to Gallows Road
Wednesday, February 8: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The road will be closed for barrier removal.

I-66 East at I-495
Monday, February 6, and Tuesday, February 7: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

66 Express Lanes West at I-495
Tuesday, February 7, and Thursday, February 9: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The westbound express lanes will be closed both nights for overhead bridge and drainage work.

Ramp I-495 North to I-66 East
Monday, February 6, through Wednesday, February 8: 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed each night for overhead bridge work and drainage work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East.

Monday, February 6, through Wednesday, February 8: 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed each night for overhead bridge work. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.
