I-66 at Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow construction of new express lanes in the center. A new ramp is being built between University Boulevard and I-66 that will connect the new park-and-ride lot with the future Express Lanes. The first 1,000 spaces of the lot opened in 2019. An additional 1,000 spaces and access from Route 29 are being built.

One lane will be closed for roadway construction.

I-66 East from Route 29 Gainesville to Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway)
Wednesday, January 26, and Thursday, January 27: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for overhead sign installation.

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road
Daily through Friday, February 4: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

I-66 at Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow construction of new express lanes in the center. The new Balls Ford Park and Ride Lot is being built with a ramp connection to the express lanes. A new bridge and ramp connection have been built for travel from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

I-66 West approaching Manassas Safety Rest Area/east of Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)
Monday, January 24, through Thursday, January 27: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Friday, January 28, and Saturday, January 29: 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge beam installation. On Monday through Thursday overnights drivers should expect periodic short stoppages. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane near the Manassas Safety Rest Area (about 1.5 miles east of Route 234 Business) and diverted behind barrier onto the old general-purpose lanes.

I-66 East from Groveton Road to Route 234 Business
Thursday, January 27, and Friday, January 28: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead sign installation.

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road
Daily through Friday, February 4: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges and ramp connections are being constructed between Route 28 and I-66 general purpose and express lanes. A new bridge has opened connecting Braddock and Walney Roads and providing expanded access to Route 28 and I-66. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 (Lee Highway) are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road
Daily through Friday, February 4: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

I-66 West at Route 28
Sunday, January 23, through Thursday, January 27: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for bridge work.

I-66 West from west of Stringfellow Road to Route 28
Wednesday, January 26, and Thursday, January 27: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, January 28, and Saturday, January 29: 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Westbound I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane west of Stringfellow Road for overhead bridge work on Wednesday night. Thursday from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., and Friday and Saturday nights from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. I-66 West west of Stringfellow Road will be closed with all traffic detoured onto the new I-66 West collector-distributor lane then directed to exit to Route 28 North, travel to the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, stay to the right to Route 28 South, then follow signs back to I-66 West.

Ramps from Stringfellow Road to I-66 East/from I-66 West to Stringfellow Road
Wednesday, January 26, and Thursday, January 27: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, January 28: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The ramps will be closed for bridge demolition.

Route 28 North at I-66

The right lane will remain closed to provide an extended merge lane for the ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North.

I-66 at Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
I-66 bridges over Route 286 and Stringfellow Road are being expanded to make room for express lanes and shifted general purpose lanes. The Monument Drive Bridge over I-66 will be modified to add express lanes ramps to and from the west. Retaining walls and noise walls are being completed across much of this part of the corridor.

I-66 West from west of Stringfellow Road to Route 28
Wednesday, January 26, and Thursday, January 27: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, January 28, and Saturday, January 29: 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Westbound I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane west of Stringfellow Road for overhead bridge work on Wednesday night. Thursday from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., and Friday and Saturday nights from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. I-66 West west of Stringfellow Road will be closed with all traffic detoured onto the new I-66 West collector-distributor lane then directed to exit to Route 28 North, travel to the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, stay to the right to Route 28 South, then follow signs back to I-66 West.

I-66 at Route 50

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New Route 50 bridges over I-66 are being built as express lanes access is added to and from the east. The Waples Mill Road Bridge is being rebuilt with improved bike and pedestrian access to include shared-use path access through the interchange. Retaining walls and noise walls are also being constructed.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
Monday night, January 24, through Friday night, January 28: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be close for sound wall work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.

Monday, January 24, through Friday, January 28: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for sound wall work.

I-66 East from Route 50 to Waples Mill Road
Tuesday, January 25, and Wednesday, January 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for construction activity.

Route 50 East from I-66 to Waples Mill Road
Wednesday, January 26, and Thursday, January 27: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for ramp work.

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East
Wednesday night, January 26, and Thursday night, January 27: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to Route 50 West, exit to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, then stay to the right to Route 50 East.

Random Hills Road West from Fairfax Hills Way to Monument Drive

I-66 at Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Multiple traffic pattern changes continue to occur as new bridges are built and exit ramps are moved and added to accommodate new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the future shared-use path. Retaining walls and noise walls are also being constructed.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant traffic impacts are scheduled.

I-66 at Nutley Street

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Nutley Street Interchange has been temporarily reconfigured to allow for the construction of a ”double roundabout” where Nutley Street crosses I-66. The Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane bridges over I-66 have been demolished and rebuilt. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Ramp from I-66 West to Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Metrorail Station (Country Creek Road/Virginia Center Boulevard exit)
Beginning Friday, January 21, at 11 p.m. continuously for approximately three weeks
The ramp will be closed for utility work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to the exit to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to I-66 East. Traffic will exit I-66 East at Nutley Street, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to Nutley Street North, and then stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to Virginia Center Boulevard.

As an alternative, drivers can exit the interstate (prior to the Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Metrorail Station closure) to Nutley Street, stay to the right to Nutley Street North, then stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Virginia Center Boulevard.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Bridge piers, abutments, and deck are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new Gallows Road Bridge is being constructed in two phases, which will require demolition of the old bridge. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

I-66 East from Cedar Lane to Gallows Road
Monday, January 24, through Wednesday, January 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, January 28, and Saturday, January 29: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work near Prosperity Avenue (about half a mile prior to Gallows Road), and overhead bridge demolition at Gallows Road. Traffic will be directed into a single lane and diverted behind barrier onto the old general-purpose lanes.

I-66 East from Cedar Lane to Gallows Road
Thursday, January 27: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed.

I-66 West from I-495 to Gallows Road
Monday, January 24, through Thursday, January 27: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, January 28: 9:30 p.m. to 9 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for bridge pier construction.

Ramp from the 495 Express Lanes North to I-66 West
Monday, January 24, through Thursday, January 27: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, January 28: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to an alternate route.

I-495 South at I-66
Monday, January 24, through Friday, January 28: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes during the overnight hours.

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West
Monday, January 24, through Friday, January 28: 10 p.m. to 5 am.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East
Monday, January 24, through Friday, January 28: 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 am.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East.

I-66 East at I-495
Monday, January 24, through Thursday, January 27: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes during the overnight hours.
