I-66 East and West will be closed at Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) during the overnight hours Friday, May 7, and Saturday, May 8, for overhead bridge beam installation. Details

During the overnight hours of May 10-11 and May 14-15, I-66 West approaching I-495 will be closed for overhead bridge beam installation. The ramps from I-495 North to I-66 West and the 495 Express Lanes South to I-66 West will also be closed. Additional overnight lane closures and stoppages will occur on I-66 West May 12-13. 

Demolition of the old Jermantown Road Bridge over I-66 is planned to begin during the overnight hours Friday, May 14. Details

I-66 at Route 29 in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The first 1,000 spaces are open at the University Boulevard Park and Ride lot. An additional 1,000 spaces are being built. University Boulevard is being modified for future Express Lanes access to and from the east.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The new bridge for Route 28 North over I-66 is being constructed along with multiple ramps and flyovers at the interchange. Abutments are being built for the new bridge connecting Braddock and Walney Roads. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North and Braddock Road/Walney Road
Monday night, May 10, through Thursday night, May 13: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramps will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. Drivers traveling to Braddock Road/Walney Road will stay to the left and follow signs to the Braddock Road/Walney Road left exit.

Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East
Thursday night, May 13, through Saturday night, May 15: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North, and then follow signs to I-66 East.

The right lane of Route 28 South will be converted to an exit only lane to I-66 West.

Multiple traffic pattern changes will occur as exit ramps are moved and added to accommodate new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the future shared use path. Retaining walls and noise walls are being built along I-66.

Eastbound and Westbound I-66 will be closed approaching Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road). All traffic will be directed to exit the interstate at Route 123, stay to the left on the ramps, and then continue across Route 123 to the ramps to return to I-66.

I-66 East and West between Route 123 and Waples Mill Road

Saturday, May 15: 10 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed on Friday night and three lanes will be closed on Saturday night approaching Jermantown Road for demolition of the old Jermantown Road Bridge over I-66. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages on both eastbound and westbound I-66 Friday night between 11:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., and Saturday night between midnight and 6:30 a.m.

I-66 at Nutley Street

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Vaden Drive bridge over I-66 is being demolished and rebuilt. The new bridge is expected to open in Sept. 2020. Work will begin on the new Nutley Street Interchange in 2020.

Three lanes will be closed for crews to implement a lane shift.

Sunday night, May 9, through Wednesday night, May 12: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed farther west to the exit to Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Station, stay to the right on to Country Creek Road, continue on to Virginia Center Boulevard, at the traffic signal turn left to Nutley Street North or turn right to Nutley Street South.

Sunday night, May 9, through Wednesday night, May 12: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramps will be closed. Traffic will be directed south on Nutley Street to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, to Route 50 West, to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) North, stay to the left and follow signs to I-66 West.

Bridge piers are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new pier and abutments are being built for the new Gallows Road bridge.

Westbound I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane. Divers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes each night.

The southbound 495 Express Lanes will be closed. Overhead variable message boards in the Express Lanes will direct traffic to an alternate route.

Gallows Road over I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane in each direction. Southbound Gallows Road will be closed with two-way traffic running in the northbound lanes.

Gallows Road South from Stenhouse Place to Avenir Place
Starting at 8 p.m. Friday, May 14, through Monday, May 17 at 6 a.m.
