I-66 at Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow space for the new express lanes in the center. A new ramp has been built between University Boulevard and I-66 that connects the new park-and-ride lot with the express lanes. The first 1,000 spaces of the lot opened in 2019. Additional spaces will be opened in 2023 to bring the total to 2,000.

Route 29 (Lee Highway) North and South Gainesville from I-66 to University Boulevard
Tuesday, May 30: Noon to 5 p.m.
Wednesday, May 31, through Friday, June 2: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One lane will be closed daily for road widening.

University Boulevard East and West from I-66 to Route 29 Gainesville
Tuesday, May 30: Noon to 5 p.m.
Wednesday, May 31, through Friday, June 2: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One lane will be closed daily for road widening.

I-66 West at Route 29 Gainesville
Wednesday, May 31: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for utility installation.

Ramp from the 66 Express Lanes West to University Boulevard
Wednesday, May 31: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for utility installation. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

I-66 at Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow space for the new express lanes in the center. The new Balls Ford Park and Ride Lot opened in Sept. 2022, and will have a total of 1,300 spaces available by summer 2023. The lot connects directly to the express lanes. A new bridge and ramp connection have been built for travel from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
There are no significant traffic impacts scheduled.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges and ramp connections have been constructed between Route 28 and the I-66 general-purpose and express lanes. A new bridge connects Braddock and Walney Roads and provides expanded access to Route 28 and I-66. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 (Lee Highway) have been rebuilt to accommodate the express lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to Route 28 South
Tuesday, May 30, through Friday, June 2: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed nightly for milling and paving. Traffic will be directed to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange to reach Route 28 South.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 South
Tuesday, May 30, through Friday, June 2: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed nightly for milling and paving. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, then follow signs to Route 28 South.

Ramps from Route 28 North and South to I-66 East
Tuesday, May 30, through Friday, June 2: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramps will be closed nightly for repair work and paving. Southbound traffic will be directed farther south to Route 29 South, continue for about one mile, and follow signs to I-66 East. Northbound traffic will also be directed to Route 29 South (prior to the closure), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, continue for about one mile and follow signs to I-66 East.

Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road

Thursday, June 1, and Friday, June 2: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramps will be closed both nights for paving. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. Drivers headed to Braddock Road/Walney Road will stay left and follow signs to that exit.

Wednesday, May 31: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

Ramp from Route 28 South and Braddock/Walney Road to the 66 Express Lanes West
Thursday, June 1: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

Route 28 South from I-66 to Route 29
Tuesday, May 30, through Friday, June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for paving.

I-66 East from Route 29 Centreville to east of Route 28
Tuesday, May 30, through Friday, June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work.

I-66 East from Stringfellow Road to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)
Tuesday, May 30: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for paving.

I-66 West from Route 286 to Stringfellow Road
Tuesday, May 30, through Saturday, June 3: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for paving, drainage work, and overhead bridge work.

I-66 at Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
I-66 bridges over Route 286 and Stringfellow Road have been expanded to make room for the express lanes and the shifted general-purpose lanes. The Monument Drive Bridge over I-66 has been modified to add express lanes ramps to and from the west. Retaining walls and noise walls have been completed across much of this part of the corridor.

Ramp from Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South to I-66 West
Tuesday, May 30, through Friday, June 2: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed nightly for barrier removal and paving. Traffic will be directed to I-66 East, exit to Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

I-66 East from Stringfellow Road to Route 286
Tuesday, May 30: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for paving.

I-66 West from Route 286 to Stringfellow Road
Tuesday, May 30, through Saturday, June 3: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for paving, drainage work, and overhead bridge work.

Route 286 North and South at I-66
Tuesday, May 30; Wednesday, May 31; and Friday, June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed each night for overhead bridge work, drainage work, and painting.

I-66 at Route 50

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New Route 50 bridges over I-66 have been built as express lanes access has been added to and from the east. The Waples Mill Road Bridge was rebuilt with improved bike and pedestrian access to include shared-use path access through the interchange. Retaining walls and noise walls were also constructed as part of the project.

Tuesday, May 30: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Tuesday, May 30: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 East.

Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East
Wednesday night, May 31, and Thursday night, June 1: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed both nights for barrier removal. Traffic will be directed farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.

I-66 West from Jermantown Road to Route 50
Tuesday, May 30, through Friday June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for punch list work.

I-66 East from Route 50 to Jermantown Road
Tuesday, May 30: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

Route 50 East from Fair Oaks Mall to Waples Mill Road
Thursday, June 1, and Friday, June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed both nights for punch list work.

I-66 at Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges have been built and exit ramps moved and/or added to accommodate the new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the shared-use path. Retaining walls and noise walls were also constructed as part of the project.

I-66 West from Jermantown Road to Route 50
Tuesday, May 30, through Friday June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for punch list work.

I-66 East from Route 50 to Jermantown Road
Tuesday, May 30: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

66 Express Lanes East from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) to I-495 (the end of the express lanes)
Wednesday, May 31, through Friday, June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The express lanes will be closed nightly for utility installation. Traffic will be directed to exit the express lanes at Route 123, turn right at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, then stay to the right to access the I-66 East general-purpose lanes.

I-66 at Nutley Street

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Nutley Street Interchange has been temporarily reconfigured to allow for the construction of a "double roundabout" where Nutley Street crosses I-66. The Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane bridges over I-66 have been demolished and rebuilt. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

66 Express Lanes East from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) to I-495 (the end of the express lanes)
Wednesday, May 31, through Friday, June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The express lanes will be closed nightly for utility installation. Traffic will be directed to exit the express lanes at Route 123, turn right at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, then stay to the right to access the I-66 East general-purpose lanes.

I-66 West collector-distributor lanes at Nutley Street
Beginning at 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, continuously through 5 a.m. Friday, June 9
One lane of two will be closed between Nutley Street and the exit to Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Metrorail Station (Country Creek Road and Virginia Center Boulevard) for drainage work.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges and ramps connect the 66 Express Lanes with the I-495 general-purpose and 495 Express Lanes. A new Gallows Road Bridge has been constructed, while construction of noise walls and a shared-use path continues.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Gallows Road South from Stenhouse Place to Bellforest Drive
Tuesday, May 30, and Wednesday, May 31: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The two southbound lanes will be closed both nights for a bridge deck pour. Two-way traffic will travel on the northbound side of the bridge.

Ramp from I-66 East to the 66 Express Lanes East at Prosperity Avenue
Tuesday, May 30, through Friday, June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed nightly for overhead sign installation. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

Ramp from the 66 Express lanes East to the 495 Express Lanes North and South
Wednesday, May 31: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

Ramp from the 66 Express Lanes East to I-495 North
Wednesday, May 31: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for inspections. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

Ramp from I-495 South to I-66 West
Friday, June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work and drainage installation. Traffic will be detoured farther south to the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, stay to the right following signs to I-495 North and I-66, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Tuesday, May 30, and Friday, June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work and drainage installation. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

I-66 East at I-495
Tuesday, May 30, through Thursday, June 1: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for utility installation and barrier work.

495 Express Lanes North from Robinson Terminal (the beginning of the express lanes) to I-66
Tuesday, May 30, and Wednesday, May 31: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The road will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

495 Express Lanes South from Route 29 (Lee Highway) to Route 50
Tuesday, May 30, through Friday, June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.

I-495 North at I-66
Wednesday, May 31: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

66 Express Lanes East from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) to I-495 (the end of the express lanes)
Wednesday, May 31, through Friday, June 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The express lanes will be closed nightly for utility installation. Traffic will be directed to exit the express lanes at Route 123, turn right at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, then stay to the right to access the I-66 East general-purpose lanes.
