I-66 at Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow construction of new express lanes in the center. A new ramp is being built between University Boulevard and I-66 that will connect the new park-and-ride lot with the future Express Lanes. The first 1,000 spaces of the lot opened in 2019. An additional 1,000 spaces and access from Route 29 are being built.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Route 29 (Lee Highway) North and South Gainesville from University Boulevard to I-66
Monday, November 21, and Tuesday, November 22: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday, November 23: 8 a.m. to noon
One lane will be closed daily for road widening.

I-66 at Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow construction of new express lanes in the center. The new Balls Ford Park and Ride Lot is being built with a ramp connection to the express lanes. A new bridge and ramp connection have been built for travel from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant traffic impacts are planned.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges and ramp connections are being constructed between Route 28 and I-66 general purpose and express lanes. A new bridge has opened connecting Braddock and Walney Roads and providing expanded access to Route 28 and I-66. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 (Lee Highway) are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Ramp from Route 28 North to I-66 East
Monday night, November 21: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for lighting work. Traffic will be directed to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South (prior to the closed ramp), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, continue for about one mile and follow signs to t I-66 East.

Braddock Road/Walney Road at Route 28
Monday night, November 21, and Tuesday night, November 22: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The road will be closed both nights for tape installation. Traffic on Braddock Road and Walney Road will be detoured to Westfields Boulevard to access Route 28 South and I-66.

I-66 at Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
I-66 bridges over Route 286 and Stringfellow Road are being expanded to make room for express lanes and shifted general purpose lanes. The Monument Drive Bridge over I-66 will be modified to add express lanes ramps to and from the west. Retaining walls and noise walls are being completed across much of this part of the corridor.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant traffic impacts are planned.

I-66 at Route 50

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New Route 50 bridges over I-66 are being built as express lanes access is added to and from the east. The Waples Mill Road Bridge is being rebuilt with improved bike and pedestrian access to include shared-use path access through the interchange. Retaining walls and noise walls are also being constructed.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Random Hills Road West from Fairfax Hills Way to Monument Drive
Ongoing
The left lane will be closed for retaining wall and bridge construction.

Random Hills Road East at Monument Drive
Ongoing
The right lane will be closed for bridge construction.

Route 50 East from Fair Oaks Mall to I-66
Ongoing
The left lane will be closed for bridge construction.

I-66 at Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Multiple traffic pattern changes continue to occur as new bridges are built and exit ramps are moved and added to accommodate new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the future shared-use path. Retaining walls and noise walls are also being constructed.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant traffic impacts are planned.

I-66 at Nutley Street

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Nutley Street Interchange has been temporarily reconfigured to allow for the construction of a ”double roundabout” where Nutley Street crosses I-66. The Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane bridges over I-66 have been demolished and rebuilt. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant traffic impacts are planned.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Bridge piers, abutments, and deck are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new Gallows Road Bridge is being constructed in two phases, which will require demolition of the old bridge. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Ramp from I-66 East to the 495 Express Lanes
Tuesday, November 22: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to alternate routes.

Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North
Monday, November 21: 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, stay to the right following signs to I-495 North.

Ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South and the 495 Express Lanes South
Monday, November 21, and Tuesday, November 22: 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed both nights for noise wall and guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Nutley Street, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal to Nutley Street South, stay right to I-66 East, then follow signs to I-495 South or the 495 Express Lanes South.

I-495 North at I-66
Monday, November 21, and Tuesday, November 22: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed both nights for overhead gantry installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

495 Express Lanes North from Robinson Terminal (beginning of Express Lanes) to I-66
Monday, November 21, and Tuesday, November 22: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The northbound 495 Express Lanes will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work and overhead sign installation at I-66. Overhead signs will direct drivers to alternate routes.
