I-66 at Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow construction of new express lanes in the center. A new ramp is being built between University Boulevard and I-66 that will connect the new park-and-ride lot with the future Express Lanes. The first 1,000 spaces of the lot opened in 2019. An additional 1,000 spaces and access from Route 29 are being built.

Monday, October 3, through Friday, October 7: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
One lane will be closed daily for road widening.

I-66 at Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow construction of new express lanes in the center. The new Balls Ford Park and Ride Lot is being built with a ramp connection to the express lanes. A new bridge and ramp connection have been built for travel from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

Sunday, October 2: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for paving.

Ramp from Route 234 Business North and South to I-66 East
Sunday, October 2: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for paving. Northbound traffic will be directed to continue north for about one mile and turn right onto Route 29 North, travel approximately four miles to the Route 29 (Lee Highway) Interchange in Centreville, then follow signs to I-66 East.

Southbound traffic will be directed to turn right onto Balls Ford Road, turn left at the traffic signal onto Miramar Drive, turn left at the traffic signal onto Coverstone Drive, then turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 234 Business North. Drivers will continue north for about 1.5 miles and turn right onto Route 29 North, travel approximately four miles to the Route 29 Interchange in Centreville and follow signs to I-66 East.

Ramp from Route 234 Business North and South to I-66 West
Monday, October 3, through Thursday, October 6: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be detoured north of I-66 to Route 29 South, travel about four miles then follow signs to I-66 West. As an alternate route, drivers can go west on Balls Ford Road, turn right onto Route 234 Bypass North, then follow signs to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business North and South
Monday, October 3, through Thursday, October 6: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed each night for underdrain work. Drivers will be directed to continue farther west, exit to Route 29 North Gainesville, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right to I-66 East and follow signs to Route 234 Business.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges and ramp connections are being constructed between Route 28 and I-66 general purpose and express lanes. A new bridge has opened connecting Braddock and Walney Roads and providing expanded access to Route 28 and I-66. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 (Lee Highway) are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

Ramp from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville North and South to I-66 East
Monday, October 3: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramps will be closed for paving. Route 29 South traffic will be directed farther south to Stone Road, make a U-turn onto Route 29 North, exit to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East. Route 29 North traffic will be directed farther north to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 North and South Centreville
Sunday, October 2, through Thursday, October 6: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Ramp closure is planned on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be directed farther west to Route 15, stay to the left and use the left-most lane to Route 15 South, staying to the left to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

Two lanes will be closed on multiple nights for milling and paving.

Sunday, October 2, through Thursday, October 6: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed each night for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south, exit to Route 29 South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
Sunday, October 2: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for inspection work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North.

Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
Sunday, October 2: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for inspection work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 North, follow signs to Route 28 North, then follow signs to the Braddock Road/Walney Road left exit.

I-66 East from Stringfellow Road to Route 286
Monday, October 3, and Tuesday, October 4: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed both nights for a traffic shift.

Route 28 North from Route 29 to south of Poplar Tree Road
Sunday, October 2; Thursday, October 6; and Friday, October 7: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed on multiple nights for striping and asphalt testing.

Route 28 North at I-66

The right lane will remain closed to provide an extended merge lane for the ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North.

I-66 at Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
I-66 bridges over Route 286 and Stringfellow Road are being expanded to make room for express lanes and shifted general purpose lanes. The Monument Drive Bridge over I-66 will be modified to add express lanes ramps to and from the west. Retaining walls and noise walls are being completed across much of this part of the corridor.

Monday, October 3, and Tuesday, October 4: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed both nights for a traffic shift.

I-66 at Route 50

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New Route 50 bridges over I-66 are being built as express lanes access is added to and from the east. The Waples Mill Road Bridge is being rebuilt with improved bike and pedestrian access to include shared-use path access through the interchange. Retaining walls and noise walls are also being constructed.

I-66 West from Route 50 to Monument Drive
Monday, October 3, through Thursday, October 6: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed on multiple nights for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East and West
Monday, October 3, and Tuesday, October 4: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed both nights for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, and then follow signs to Route 50 West or East.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 East and West
Wednesday, October 5, and Thursday, October 6: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed both nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 East or West.

Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 West
Beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, October 7, continuously through 5 a.m. Monday, October 10
The ramp will be closed for a traffic shift and permanent ramp opening. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Multiple traffic pattern changes continue to occur as new bridges are built and exit ramps are moved and added to accommodate new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the future shared-use path. Retaining walls and noise walls are also being constructed.

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Nutley Street Interchange has been temporarily reconfigured to allow for the construction of a ”double roundabout” where Nutley Street crosses I-66. The Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane bridges over I-66 have been demolished and rebuilt. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

Bridge piers, abutments, and deck are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new Gallows Road Bridge is being constructed in two phases, which will require demolition of the old bridge. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

Ramp from I-66 East to the 495 Express Lanes North and South
Sunday, October 2, through Thursday, October 6: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramps will be closed on multiple nights for overhead bridge work. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to an alternate route.

Sunday, October 2, through Tuesday, October 4: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed on multiple nights for overhead gantry installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

495 Express Lanes North from Robinson Terminal (start of the Express Lanes) to I-66
Sunday, October 2, through Tuesday, October 4: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The northbound 495 Express Lanes will be closed on multiple nights for gantry installation and bridge deck work.

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West
Monday, October 3, through Thursday, October 6: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, October 7: 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
The ramp will be closed on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then follow signs to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

Monday, October 3, through Wednesday, October 5: 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed on multiple nights for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, stay to the right following signs to I-495 North.
