I-66 at Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow construction of new express lanes in the center. A new ramp is being built between University Boulevard and I-66 that will connect the new park-and-ride lot with the future Express Lanes. The first 1,000 spaces of the lot opened in 2019. An additional 1,000 spaces and access from Route 29 are being built.

Wednesday, May 25, and Thursday, May 26: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed both nights for paving and a traffic shift.

I-66 East at Route 15
Wednesday, May 25: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead sign installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

I-66 West from Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway) to Route 29 Gainesville
Thursday, May 26: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed paving

I-66 at Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Travel lanes have been shifted to the outside portion of the roadway to allow construction of new express lanes in the center. The new Balls Ford Park and Ride Lot is being built with a ramp connection to the express lanes. A new bridge and ramp connection have been built for travel from I-66 West to Route 234 Business South.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road
Daily through Friday, June 10: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

I-66 East from Groveton Road to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)
Monday, May 23, through Wednesday, May 25: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed nightly for paving and survey work.

I-66 at Route 28/Sully Road

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New bridges and ramp connections are being constructed between Route 28 and I-66 general purpose and express lanes. A new bridge has opened connecting Braddock and Walney Roads and providing expanded access to Route 28 and I-66. A new E.C. Lawrence Park access road has been built. The I-66 bridges over Route 29 (Lee Highway) are being demolished and rebuilt to accommodate future Express Lanes and provide room for future mass transit and future widening of Route 29.

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road
Daily through Friday, June 10: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

Ramp from Route 29 (Lee Highway) North Centreville to I-66 West
Tuesday night, May 24, through Thursday night, May 26: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed nightly. Traffic will be directed to continue farther north to the intersection of Machen Road/Trinity Parkway. At the traffic signal drivers will use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

I-66 East from Route 29 Centreville to Route 28
Monday, May 23, through Thursday, May 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

I-66 East from Compton Road to Cub Run
Thursday, May 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead sign installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

I-66 East from east of Route 28 to Stringfellow Road
Monday, May 23, through Thursday, May 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-66 East approaching Stringfellow Road will be reduced to a single travel lane nightly for overhead bridge beam installation. Traffic will be directed into a single travel lane and diverted behind barrier onto new roadway to get around the work zone.

I-66 West at Route 28
Monday, May 23, through Thursday, May 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed each night for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect short stoppages of up to 5 minutes between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. nightly.

I-66 East from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville to Route 28
Monday, May 23, through Thursday, May 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

Route 28 North at I-66
Ongoing
The right lane will remain closed to provide an extended merge lane for the ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North.

I-66 at Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
I-66 bridges over Route 286 and Stringfellow Road are being expanded to make room for express lanes and shifted general purpose lanes. The Monument Drive Bridge over I-66 will be modified to add express lanes ramps to and from the west. Retaining walls and noise walls are being completed across much of this part of the corridor.

I-66 East from east of Route 28 to Stringfellow Road
Monday, May 23, through Thursday, May 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-66 East approaching Stringfellow Road will be reduced to a single travel lane nightly for overhead bridge beam installation. Traffic will be directed into a single travel lane and diverted behind barrier onto new roadway to get around the work zone.

I-66 East from Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) to Monument Drive
Friday, May 27: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (Saturday, May 28, will be used as backup should inclement weather occur.)
Three lanes will be closed for a traffic shift.

I-66 at Route 50

MAIN ACTIVITIES
New Route 50 bridges over I-66 are being built as express lanes access is added to and from the east. The Waples Mill Road Bridge is being rebuilt with improved bike and pedestrian access to include shared-use path access through the interchange. Retaining walls and noise walls are also being constructed.

Monday, May 23, through Thursday, May 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge demolition. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East
Monday night, May 23, through Thursday night, May 26: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed nightly for drainage work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 50 West, exit to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, then stay to the right to Route 50 East.

Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 West
Wednesday night, May 25, and Thursday night, May 26: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed both nights for barrier work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

I-66 West from Jermantown Road to Route 50
Wednesday, May 25, and Thursday, May 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be both nights closed for a traffic shift.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
Wednesday night, May 25: Midnight to 4 a.m.
Thursday, May 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed both nights for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
Beginning Friday, May 27, continuously through Monday, August 1
The right lane will be closed for ramp construction.

Right Turn Lane from Monument Drive North to I-66 East
Ongoing, through August 1
The right turn lane from Monument Drive North to I-66 East will be closed for bridge work. Traffic will be directed farther north to Fair Lakes Parkway, make a U-turn at the traffic signal to head south on Monument Drive. Drivers will then turn left at the traffic signal to the ramp to I-66 East.

Random Hills Road West from Fairfax Hills Way to Monument Drive

The left lane will be closed for retaining wall and bridge construction.

Route 50 East from Fair Oaks Mall to I-66

I-66 at Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Multiple traffic pattern changes continue to occur as new bridges are built and exit ramps are moved and added to accommodate new express lanes at the Route 123 Interchange. Box culverts have been built in the interchange for the future shared-use path. Retaining walls and noise walls are also being constructed.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
No significant impacts scheduled.

I-66 at Nutley Street

MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Nutley Street Interchange has been temporarily reconfigured to allow for the construction of a ”double roundabout” where Nutley Street crosses I-66. The Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane bridges over I-66 have been demolished and rebuilt. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

I-66 East from Vaden Drive to Nutley Street
Monday, May 23, through Thursday, May 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead gantry removal, overhead bridge work, and a traffic shift. On Monday and Tuesday nights, drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

Ramp from Nutley Street South to I-66 East
Monday night, May 23, through Thursday night, May 26: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther south, stay to the left and make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Route 29 (Lee Highway) onto Nutley Street North, then follow signs to I-66 East.

I-66 West from Nutley Street to Vaden Drive
Wednesday, May 25: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

Ramp from Virginia Center Boulevard to I-66 West
Ongoing, through Tuesday, July 5
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to continue east on Virginia Center Boulevard to Nutley Street. At the traffic signal, traffic will turn right to Nutley Street South, then turn left at the traffic signal to access the ramp to I-66 West.

I-66 at I-495/Capital Beltway

MAIN ACTIVITIES
Bridge piers, abutments, and deck are being built for new ramps that will connect the new express lanes with I-495 general purpose and express lanes. A new Gallows Road Bridge is being constructed in two phases, which will require demolition of the old bridge. Construction of noise walls and shared-use path continues.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North
Thursday, May 26: 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, take the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, then stay to the right following signs to I-495 North.

I-66 West at I-495
Thursday, May 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for overhead gantry installation and a traffic shift.

I-66 East at I-495
Thursday, May 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West
Thursday, May 26: 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East
Thursday, May 26: 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East.

I-66 East from Cedar Lane to Gallows Road
Monday, May 23, through Thursday, May 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed nightly for gantry installation.

I-495 North at I-66
Tuesday, May 24, through Thursday, May 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.
